I've been playing some mastermind lately and I have collected 10 problems that have a single solution.
First an example:
- The pin colors in the game are purple-orange-blue-yellow-red-brown-green-pink
- The right pins indicate how good or bad your solution is:
- Each white pin indicates one correct color, but misplaced.
- Each red pin indicates one correctly placed pin.
How to solve this easy problem:
- The first line tells us we have identified the four colors: yellow-yellow-green-purple and that we have two correctly placed.
- In the second line we have 3 pins correctly placed (3 reds). We changed the second one and that resulted in a red pin less, which means that we changed a correct color, so 2=purple.
- The bottom line shows us a white and red pin, the purple is the one that is correct color, misplaced, so the only color that can produce red is the yellow one, so 4=yellow.
- The second yellow can not be placed on the left, because the third row does not have two red pins, which means that 3=yellow, which means that 1=green.
