I think Gamer you and I had the best draft positions based on what we saw from the episodes. The rest of the drafters got one solid pick but are now basically gambling with unknowns or picking meh contestants imo

Yeah I think there is a considerable drop off after 7.

I'm having a real rough time atm trying to figure out who I think the strongest cook is.

I have a few kinda maybe darkhorses in mind but I'm not super sold on them

In theory we should have done this with 1 less drafter and after the next episode where we get to see everyone cook, but meh

so I did some "recon"

this is only the second season that MC does the H2Hs to get from 40 -> 20 so the possible production clues that HN mentioned might not remain consistent.

Of the top 10 chefs last season, 9 of them were in the "featured" battles in the first 2 episodes. The only one who was not was Nick Nappi who finished 4th.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the winner get's their own cook book. It is therefore widely speculated that production "pushes" for a "marketable" contestant to win in order to encourage book sales.

Last season Claudia gave a lot of weight to that argument because in the top 4 she was arguably the weakest but being a Mexican mother she had the Mexican family angle to push for a book and the other 3 did not have a distinct cooking style.

Lesser evidence of this is Lucas winning S4 being of Italian decent and Christine winning S3 being heavily geared towards Asian Cuisine.
