and what's her face seemed again to singlehanded choose cassie. (not that i thought cas was any good) but the comments from her...:P
you have to keep in mind that like 90% of the show happens behind the scenes and everything showed on TV is mostly for production value.

They are probably just trying to make it clear that Tossi's opinion does matter and that she isn't just there to be Gordon's sidekick

I AM keeping it in mind and that's exactly what made Hells Kitchen so bad. So many jump cuts, so much editing. cutesy things like men vs women.

Top Chef was a very similar type of show with the same basic structure, yet it wasn't this bad. We got to see everyone cook. We got to see everyone's results. It seemed more about the food and about the contestants. It had drama but not this kind. And thejudges are kind of going on endlessly...like they've just spanked a child and telling them they've been bad. I like seeing judges criticize but this is meh...take yourself too seriously criticism.

"they"....

so you are saying "they" are deciding the outcome and not the actual judges?
"Hey guys....go with Tossi's opinion....yeah do that again. Perfect! This'll make a great ending"

In general, the answer is yes that executives have final decisions on cuts (though I think Ramsay is an EP on the show) just like with every other reality show

I'm under the impression that Tossi, Ramsay + 1 make the bulk of the decision but are "swayed" towards keeping the more marketable contestants.

As far as reality TV shows good I think it's difficult to find one where production doesn't make a spectacle of it but I think all things considered MC is pretty good.

It probably just seems less focused on cooking early on because there are 20 contestants.

Once you get to like the top 10, it's less so about drama and more cooking focused.

In terms of your best bet of getting an overall accurate presentation of a reality show, it's Big Brother, but it requires keeping up with the live feeds. Obviously production still meddles, but it's a lot harder to be super obvious about it when the cameras are rolling a majority of 24/7

The shows are super geared towards containing the most ''entertainment" vs focusing on the strategic point. Focuses way to much on meaningless feuds and "showmances"

I really noticed how bad it was in BB14 when there was not a single showmance but still pushed the Shane and Daniele narrative as hard as they could in order to appease that demographic.

I only watch feeds + read up on sites that provide few recaps and stuff because the episodes themselves are pretty inaccurate. I only watch them to see the competitions.

I'm the same way and in general is what I meant. The shows are not produced as the events unfold on the feeds, but they still have to find a way to portray why a person is leaving the house and they generally get that correct because otherwise the editing would be super weid.

Spreadsheet somewhat updated.
Do we issue 5 pts for surviving the week or pressure test? Both have been said at times

Surviving a week in which there was an elimination.

So basically you get 5 points per week your contestant is in the competition

Spreadsheet should be good now and is LDO spoiled

that being said, should we issue the the 24 hours before spoilers rule like most other TV discussion groups go ?

I personally watch the night of and don't/won't open the thread until I've watched.

Before I watch ep 2. Want to comment on ep 1 more

I rewatched it.

GREAT JOB for nathan...kicked some serious butt and great comeback

I am SO GLAD we picked deandre and not bill. like deanre a lot. great pick vruuuuk.

Was sweating bullets when dan and deandre ended up near bottom.

dan is such a douche. these people sound like they are saying lines. I bet they are in some cases.

whoa...andrea dark horse. I don't like stuck getting so many points right off the bat.

the thing that most annoys me is that we don't get to see what our picks can do and even enjoy the different creative ideas people come up with for dishes. I think that was always my favorite part of top chef. The presentation of the dishes and Tom's critiques of them. Liked Ted on that show too. Hated Gail.

Watched just the beginning of ep 2 so far and oh look at gordon and Tossi being all hipster and dressing down

I hate deandre completely that punk. I blame vruuuk for picking him!

maybe stay off the internet, just in case

Yea I wasn't thrilled with Blue team losing since it had 3/4 of our picks on it. But that said we weren't worried in the slightest that any of them would be eliminated. Andrea/Brittany were too 'quiet' to get any heat (which means they probably did well) and Nathan was actually a really good captain

Terry turned out to be such a great pick. So calm, composed, he should make top 10 no problem.

I was super super happy they went from showcasing Shaun as a complete mess who was always rushed for time in Ep1 to arguably the strongest chef on the blue team

I guess I should have thrown the word "relatively" in there.
We've seen so many captains either be too quiet and timid or too arrogant and completely sabotage their team. Nathan had some faults but at least he pulled his team back together, listened to them, and tried directing them

I think a lot of that could've been editing so the viewer wasn't sure which team won and also to show Nathan in a positive light. He could've been a total dumpster fire.
