Tell me, Chuck, ever thought of starring in a sequel to The Ten Commandments?

Re: LC Gimmick seasoning thread

Zorak: My favorite episode of The Golden Girls is the one where they all took contaminated Geritol and died.

Space Ghost: That was never an episode!

Zorak: Well, it should have been.

Re: LC Gimmick seasoning thread

I feel like I should be posting in this thread.

I understand the reason for the new rules, but it's a shame newly created gimmicks can't have avatars. The post 1 pop-in just ain't the same without the right picture.

Yah I agree. It's kind of rubbish not to be able to pop in from nowhere fully formed but this has become a real problem for the site apparently.

A victory is twice itself when the achiever brings
home full numbers. I find here that Don Peter hath
bestowed much honour on a young Florentine called Claudio.

Much deserved on his part and equally remembered by
Don Pedro: he hath borne himself beyond the
promise of his age, doing, in the figure of a lamb,
the feats of a lion: he hath indeed better
bettered expectation than you must expect of me to
tell you how.

I have already delivered him letters, and there
appears much joy in him; even so much that joy could
not show itself modest enough without a badge of
bitterness.

That Zorkmod dude really does seem to talk much ado about nothing. Definitely putting HIM on ignore.

I can imagine (I think), and certainly don't fault the site.

But I have an idea. If I understand it correctly, an account becomes fully enabled, automatically, after (1) it has existed for a certain amount of time (let's say X days), and (2) it has made a certain number of posts (let's say Y). If that's correct, then I can imagine the following working:
  • Create gimmick account.
  • Wait a while, at least X days.
  • PM somebody to get permission to post in this thread.
  • Make Y posts in this thread, very quickly.
  • When the account is thereby enabled, quickly use the new ability to put up an avatar.
  • Delete all Y posts — this all has to be done within the window for that, of course.
If it all worked, you would be left with an account with zero posts, but an avatar. Some people might have seen the now-deleted posts here, but most wouldn't have, and if you chose to pop in a year later it would be about as cool as it otherwise would have.

Have I missed something?

I used to keep a spreadsheet; I've now moved everything into a password manager. Makes it a lot easier, or at least it would if I were around enough to care. Maybe some day I'll be glad I have them.
