I'm on happyneuron ****ing around and I come across a game where you look at a person's hand and use the arrow key to state whether you're looking at a left or right hand. They make the game a little trickier by showing you the mirror image and you need to reverse the image in your mind before selecting right or left. I struggled with the obvious answer but was proficient at the mirror image. Had the same trouble in elementary school; writing backwards, reading poorly, and attentional problems. What do you recommend? Practice? Slowing down? Thanks.

Sometimes spacing can make a huge difference in allowing your brain to process. I think certain fonts are better, too.

As for reading - my dyslexic husband uses audible for most of his books now and he loves it.

Okay, I'll give that a try.

Attention problems are the sequelae of dyslexia - struggling with mainstream education due to dyslexia is most commonly treated as not being very bright - that combined with frustration.

The psychological issues that arise from dyslexia are more debilitating than the actual memory sequencing problems. The earlier you get diagnosed and get some decent intervention the better. I am not an expert but it seems to me that practice and being given alternative learning perspectives are the way to improve.

Personally I make sure that whenever I am receiving directions (particularly when driving) I tell the person giving directions that they have to point.

try using a sheet of paper or some other opaque plane to cover the letters you aren't looking at (moving it as you read)

On my computer, I often use the mouse highlight function to keep my place on the line/paragraph, but I don't think I'm dyslexic so I don't know if this will work for you.

for reading speeches/etc aloud, use multi-colored highlighting to differentiate words/letters as needed
