The door behind leads to a pristine chamber. Unlike the previous place room which was completely rotting and devastated, this room shines black. An eerie feeling enters you as you step inside. banners hang through the room depicting a sad little girl with the name...of Fia. At the far end of this chamber is a raised altar, before which what looks like a priest in black robe and hood stands, his back to you, swirling his hands in some incantation. You grasp the hilt of your sword and stride toward it. It continues to swirl before you. You are then stand wide-eyed that the priest begins moving through the altar in front of you and emanates an inhuman wail. It behing a black room you now realize that it is facing forward. It's deep eyes gleam, it's body transparent, this spectre launches itself toward you with blinding speed.

Finally an instrumental worthy of the top ten. I was getting worried. Definitely a fantasy feel with the Spanish guitars and the operateic vocalists. Just great.

This was a strong contender all the way. This one proved a fierce competitor and showed me that all the other instrumentals had to cross this song to get into the top 10. But it shouted...you cannot pass.

The last of the instrumentals...it lifted the instrumental beyond soundtrack or just randomness up to another level. Such beautiful instrumentation. The spanish guitar. The darkness, the ethereal wailing...the drum beat is on point and drives this song....the swirl of sounds...excellent playing...and singing. I weep...I weep...oh sad little girl on the cover...this is your cry...this is your cry...

You have aged significantly from your battle. Your hair has turned a slight grey. The fright from that moan you will never forget...and the sadness in its eyes...never forget...

You mount a grand stair and out of that desolate place. You step through a door of wood...and one of iron...and one of gold...onto a dock. There is water everywhere...a great underground lake...or sea...only a large boat awaits, its sail depicting a great viking ship on fire. You leap aboard and launch the ship across the water which quickly gets rougher as you go. It seems to know where it is going and takes you far across the water...where you cannot even see the ceiling. Is there a ceiling... is that sky? Is that the sun? No...it lit then was extinguished. Then you hear a mighty roar. Above you is a creature circling down. It's like three creatures in one...the chimera. Before you can focus you hit the deck as a goat head pounds the cabin. It turns and stands, a lion head roars. It's great wings flap and about bowl you over...then the dragon head turned toward you a breathes...fire...

Then fell just a tad...only because the others had just a tad more going for them. Not because this cool song did anything wrong.

You managed to cut off two of the heads before the beast dropped, weighing down the ship. With all your might you heave it off of the burning ship. You don't even bother putting the flames out. You walk across a barren wasteland...hundreds maybe thousands of feet...bleakness and desolation around. There are mountains and rocky crags about. It becomes more hilly. Rocky. Your feet ache. Your heart pounds. There is no more time. Over a dark hill, your foe stands. Triumphant in his dark battle armor. Carrying a standard, black with a lake of silver upon it. He motions toward you, then beacons you to take it from his dead grasp...if you can. Hollow lights stare you down within its helm. It draws a mighty sword...waiting to cleave yet another victim with its mighty hand.

In the distance you see a tower...and arrive at its door. Throwing it open, you startle some birds which flutter away. You watch as a dark one flies upward. through the center atrium around which a spiral staircase ascends forever. You continue to watch it flutter and then then it seems to stop in midair high above you. You watch for a bit but it weirdly remains there...just floating... the floor in front of you is merely full of small piles of ash and char.

You start to climb the stairs, one by one...rounding up and up...passing pillars along the way, ever keeping your eye on the strange hovering bird above you. And then you see along steps...bones....bodies torn asunder...stone statues of men...if only they WERE statues...burn marks, scorch marks, dried blood, you hasten your pace running up after the bird.... it's closer...it's within view...it's NOT A BIRD!!!! it's a large black bird on a tapestry hung over a massive ball that floats in midair... but that's not a ball...tentacles wrigglie out from behind the tapestry each with a small eyestalk. and theball rotates...and a giant eye stares back at you... the Beholder...

I don't know what to say. I didn't know what to say. I had to figure this one out. It sat there amid two other heavy songs...one faster...the other more grungey...and slowly it emerged. It blossomed. The tale. The angst is right. The guitar playing is so on point. The opening, the middle...this crawled up the chart. I so want to flip it forward now really. it is too late. I must do this thing. I acknowledge how much I like this...

Final Scroll
Spoiler:
Oh boy! Someone has tapped into my love of progressive hard rock with a vengeance. THANK YOU <3! I think of Lindsey Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac...how he would layer guitar sounds and types throughout the same song. Like in Gold Dust Woman...there are like 7 different tracks of guitar...all him. I felt like this. The opening acoustic trickles in sadly. It wakes you up and pulls you down. The emotion of the singer is there from the beginning. There is great playing throughout. I love the levels...the hard...the soft. And just now I looked up the band...they are the musicians (not the singer) from Creed. YOU'RE KIDDING!! Holy crap...shows what a bad frontman can do to a band...and what artists the players can become with a new one. That end guitar...it's bleeding...it's crying...

Your sword is embedded in the giant eye of the most horrific creature in existence. You have been blasted and scorched and nearly missed being turned to stone yourself. You sit on the floor trying to pull the sort out. What made you jump stright from the stair onto the creature...and jam your sword in it as it died...and plummeted to the ground bellow. What made you do that? Did you think you could fly?

You cross through the door at the top of the tower. After "all those stairs"... And you instinctly shiver even though it isn't cold. This door has entered the mountainside and the passage looks to be carved of ice. Icy walls all around. Ceiling. Floor. Ice Stalagmites and Stalactites Fissures open up and passageways cross. You go down icy steps and up Icy tunnels. But it isn't cold. Warm ice? What's that taste like. Uggggh! It's salt. Salt all around you. Salt to the left of you. Salt to the right. And here you are. Yes. here you are. Staring at a tapestry completely embedded in salt to the right. A dark blimp of sorts flies in a wasteland. is In an open cavern of Salt. You start to hear a knocking. Strange noise. To the left you see a figure...a silhouette. Behind the salt...tapping on the wall...no. Pounding on the wall. Chiseling at the wall. Pound...pound pound CRACK. It is breaking through. CRACK. It is breaking...It's a two headed giant...it has broken through half the wall. This one has two boars heads! An Ettin! It looks pretty mad. Most of the creatures you have dealt with have been magical of sorts. And your magic weapon and shield helped you defeat it. This one is sheer force.... *CRACK* Sheer brutality *CRACK* Here it comes...time to go!

Spoiler:
Classic classic Led Zeppelin. Very obvious selection. I mean it mentions Lord of the Rings even giving them a cameo in the song. But you know…you have just picked one of my two favorite Zeppelin songs. It's not as hard not as flat bluesy, not as showoffy...featuring some wonderful guitar moments of various kinds...nice melodic base. How many guitars is Page playing? All of them....the acoustic is nice...and then it takes off....Plant is such a god....baby baby baby baby babby baby....excellent....however...the obviousness has doubled this song up.

Scroll 2
Spoiler:
Note while this IS one of my two favorite Led songs…listening to it upclse I even found new things nhere. There are like 3 guitar lines going on at any particulrar point playing around and through and with Plant's singing. Acoustic strumming. Accoustic dithering, electric creeping in. Melodic bass in the background. This is one of those songs that deserves to be a classic. And I am SO happy there were four songs that rose to the occasion of being as great as this one.

The Journey
Spoiler:
This is it. This is the litmus test. I've seen other salt in other walruses. Extreme salt. About classic. people seem to hate them. Then someone does a walruses and places one higher and people get mad. I get the dichotomy. It is so hard to place something that's a hit that everyone knows...that you know up against something new and fresh that you don't. I find my walrus echoing gad's in a way. He placed a classic Monkees tune I submitted in this very position. Can I not afford the same compassion to another? Oh yes I can. And with good reason. This is not just any song with Fantasy in it. This happens to be my very favorite song from one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. Sure this seems a (what Gad would call) layup. But it is by no means the Ultimate layup...everyone know what that would be...Stairway to Heaven. Denied! So here we are...This is my favorite song by them. But just to be safe I listened to it again. I had to put its money where its mouth is. And hell if didn't deliver. (see below). So this is where our walrus took us boys and girls. This is the mother****ing rock and roll test. What songs can be better than my favorite song by Led Zeppelin. That's why I put this right up front and center...who could do it? Only four songs could. And I was so pleased about that.

Final Scroll
Spoiler:

I expect salt from this. Honey badger don't care. He really doesn't. And here's something else that will salt your fries. Two different people submitted this song. Yup. Honey badger don't care! I'm not ranking the players. I'm ranking the songs. I'll ding the layups later. It's about the song. As I said...I found things I have never heard before. So many wonderful isolated moments that come and go in this song. If you blink you miss em but they build and add and shape. I'm talkin bout Page. Jimmy Page. Acoustic strum. Electric echo. So melodic and pleasant in his playing. So subtle is the bassline that sneaks in. And the drums do their thing. Bonham...not just doing standard rock anything. He sounds strangely like he's banging erasers after school at the beginning then just comes in powerful. Page starts with a cool strum...then places this honky tonk country thing. Then jams in with full electric...then moves into a fantasy weeping guitar then just layers the kitchen sink in. Did I miss someone...Plant...plant...plant....a masterclass in singing. He knows how to build. He knows how to blast. He knows where the rhythm is. He could sing everything in rhythm he don't have to. Honey badger don't care. Stephen Sondheim described Dean Jones' singing on "Being Alive"....he reached points where he blossomed and bloomed, exploding like fireworks...where he could just explode with a line and sing it however it felt and it didn't matter if it strayed from the rhythm...then he would hop back on again and bloom again. Plant does this excellently throughout this. On the first line he does that. Even in the subtle stuff. And later when he explodes. And then the end. Just layers upon layer of plant seemingly extemporizing, scatting...and of course...the ever cool cameo from Gollum, stealing our girlfriend. Meh...you can have her Gollum. That's alright. I got all i need.
babybabybabybabybaby

You found a passage through and the ettin followed breaking through every inch of salt. YOu poked it many times with your sword. You could not outrun it. It would slam you with its mace...then picked you up and threw you. Then you found an opening....it is raining from above...Strange what looked like creatures with big eyes that stare at you and scream...they are crying...their tears filled the hall... Vines from the creatures heads hang down. You ran back to the tunnel The ettin roared and swung but you ducked. It swung again and took out the whole ceiling. It swung again and chunks of salt now covered it. You charge back into the room. and pull. YOu pull a vine then another then another. They fall one after the other. You wind up and fling them at the salt covered ettin who is beating everything to dislodge himself. The vine creature cling to the pil and cry. They cry...their salty tears. A sizzle starts...then a pop....You run....you run...as the ettin explodes.
