Coup was fun at first for us but quickly took a backseat to Resistance.

played food chain magnate 3 times now, all 4 player

overpasses don't seem to be covered well in the rules or vids i watched, but we treat them as real roads, so if a house is trying to buy from a restaurant it can't make a turn from an underpass to an overpass, so may end up much further away or not able to get there. same way for drink getters

last time we played there was a starting spot on the corner of an over/underpass that was way overpowered since he had great access to two areas

also we were apparently doing marketing slightly wrong not placing them on roads all the time, mailbox marketing is also more complex than it should be

This seems hard to beat. NFI what the AI was doing, it stalled and helped me in the last turn placing a 12 point Federation Capital.

Played Mansions of Madness v2 the other day. I thought it was pretty good, like a cross between Betrayal in House on the Hill and Eldritch Horror, and the app that runs it makes it pretty fun and atmospheric.

Went to the UK Games Expo on Friday and had an awesome day. Played a bunch of games in the show and came away with a nice little horde...

Our only regret was not staying over and going for more than one day. There was so much to take in and so much we didn't get to do.

Last week I ordered
7 Wonders Duel
Seasons
Dominion

So far played 1 game of 7 Wonders Duel. It's quite possible we weren't playing properly because it just seemed like button clicking with relatively easy decisions.

I've played Dominion before with 4 people, but never 2. It was fun. Hopefully it holds up just as well with 2.

Duel is my current favorite 2p game. A lot of depth and strategy especially around planning future moves.

7 Wonders was a deception for me, being a "Family Game" at BBG it was too complicated to grasp for my 10-13 yo kiddos. So I have shied (shyed?) away from buying the duel version

Been spending quite some time watching Youtube Reviews lately, the Shut up and sit down-channel has some pretty funny reviews.

Convinced me not to buy Time Stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caLBbpp21lU

And buy Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-63xEB31dA

Magic Maze is fun

We had a Game Fest in Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend and played that with 6-7 people from 1am to 3:30am

My favorite new game I played was Yoko Hama, a great worker placement game.

I also enjoyed Ethnos and bought a copy. Fun area control game with races (wizard, troll, elf, etc) that have different powers.

Other new to me games I enjoyed playing there:
Mombasa
Champions of Midgard
Castles of Burgundy
Bloodborne
Nefertiti

I've also been playing on Tabletop Simulator on Steam recently; if anyone else plays there or wants to get a game, let me know

I learned and played Great Western Trail on there a few weeks ago; one of the players walked me through the rules over the voice chat and then we played 4-player; was very fun

We haven't got round to playing it yet, but hopefully going to give it a go tomorrow. It's had great reviews and has been in high demand. We got into the expo about 30 mins after the doors opened and the first few shops we tried had already sold out of it. The stall we finally got it from, we took their final copy. Weirdly though we didn't see it being played/demoed anywhere in the expo.

The other games we picked up:

The Captain Is Dead: Similar to Pandemic but there's more stuff to balance. You're trying to repair your spaceship in the face of an alien attack that is constantly depleting your shields (eventually leading to your destruction), knocking your ship's systems offline (removing your ability to perform actions) , injuring the crew etc. You have to balance repairing the ship's engine with working to keep the ship functioning and safe. Excellent game.

51st State: A reimplementation of Imperial Settlers, set in a post-apocalyptic world. Deck building/tableau building/engine building/resource management. You use your initial meagre resources to build buildings, which give you more resources and options. You then use your cards and resources to build more buildings, with the key being to build stuff that chains together. For the relatively heavy weight of the game, it's easy to learn and quick to set up. The expansions that come with this version will add replayability too. So far seems like an awesome game.

Pocket Mars: A quick card game with the aim of getting your astronauts from Earth into various buildings on Mars via your space shuttle by making use of actions on the cards and on the buildings. It feels like it should be fairly complex relative to the size of the game, however in the few plays we've had, we've not felt like we've been offered too many crucial strategic decisions. The game was launched at the expo and was in very high demand so the hype must have been generated from somewhere....

The Bloody Inn: A macabre theme where you are the owner of an Inn in rural France. You like to bribe your guests to help you murder the other guests then bury them under the annexes of your Inn (which you have to build) and steal all the Francs from their pockets, all while avoiding (or corrupting) the police. Uses interesting mechanics where cards have multiple uses (visitor, accomplice, corpse, annexe. An excellent game that we picked up on a total punt in the last 10 minutes of the expo, based on the cover and brief description on the back, knowing nothing more about it until we got home.

Forbidden Desert: Haven't played this one yet, but it seems like it's a classic co-op game. Have seen reviews and playthroughs online and it seems solid.

Played The Captain Is Dead with 4 players the other night and have to say that it is amazing. If you like Pandemic, you should love TCID. It plays very similarly mechanically, but there is just so much more to balance out.... do you maintain your shields to avoid getting blown to bits, repair the systems that have been knocked offline to keep your ship functional, research upgrades to improve your ship, raid the captain's log for vital advice, or get on with the main task of reparing the jump-core so you can get out of there?

Congrats and enjoy! Alban ships all his own games.

The upcoming "Founders of Gloomhaven" was better than expected. Definitely worth checking out too.

Ok, I'll keep an eye out; it looks like a few weeks out for that Kickstarter

I'm starting to build a prototype for my game; I'll let you know when/if I get to an advanced enough stage that it may move forward into reality

For zombicide fans, there a really good deal on kickstarter for zombicide green horde, 120 bucks for a shedload of free extras and the base game, and a few days left.

Not out for a year tho, so only for the patient

Played a couple new light games today.

Good Cop Bad Cop: Unusual hidden roles game where roles being revealed doesnt necessarily mean game over and there are conversion mechanics. Has a tendency to devolve into a power card drawing race luckfest, but it's fun and there were hints of hidden depths. I quite liked it and would play again but it's certainly not converting anyone who doesn't like the genre.

The Dragon & Flagon: Game simulating a tavern brawl, with a queued-action mechanic as in games like RoboRally. Utter garbage. Will elaborate if anyone cares why it sucked.

We also played Wits & Wagers. I have an old copy and this one was someone else's updated copy. They've improved the betting rules. It's a really good game if you have the right group for it, enjoyed our two games a lot.
