We wanted either France or Spain in the first round, and probably would have been happy with either, but I expected Spain to be the easier of the two to get. Pretty thrilled with France at #6. Much value. Great rejoicing. Wow.

Being hard on filthy is a requirement of any draft he's in.

I'm not too big on French cuisine, but it was probably the right time to choose it. Certainly can't hate the pick, but don't really think it's insane value either.

I had tentatively decided to take it if I got the #1 pick, but I was worried that it might be a waste of the #1 pick. After seeing Spain go ahead of it I thought I might even have a chance to get it at #9.

France is a great pick. That was one of three I was praying would somehow fall to me

Spanish food getting somewhat overrated around here? It's not all that unless you particularly like finger food or ham.

Mrs. Well Named has been muttering under her breath for like five minutes. Something about "gazpacho isn't finger food". Something about paella also.

Since sugabat hasn't yet set his sleep period yet, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he has a 14 hour clock this time. That leaves him 7 hours and change from right now.

I choose

Mexico

gonna write some later when I have some time

And another of the ones I was hoping would fall to me does not

This is going to be a challenging draft to win without one of the big six cuisines

Mrs. Well named is almost certainly gonna snipe me too, on the only other country in the top tier

It's ianaww and soah you need to fade, not Mrs Named.

Mexican seems about right at #7 given the lolfilthy. Second and third rounds seem like they'll be pretty key.

Every tent is going to have good food.

You wouldn't be at this festival unless you'd already passed the first two levels of fooding - not being hungry and finding something tasty. You are next tier. You are a searcher. For you, food isn't just a meal, it is an experience.

Our first stop will set the tone on your quest for aesthetic nirvana:

Spoiler:
India

It will be essential to take small bites here, because there is a LOT to try:

Spoiler:
(the kitchen may be a little crowded)

This is where it all begins.

Where your tastes break free of the duopoly of butter and sugar; where you truly learn to distinguish spice from heat; and where even your basic paradigms of "how do I eat this" are challenged, opening up an entirely new outlook on life and how to approach it.

Namaste.

Of course she is right. Even poor old [UNDRAFTED] has thousands of soups and stews but it is trumped by Spain, which has one that it doesn't even bother warming up.

Well Mexico and India seemed like the next two countries that should go, so obviously that meant I was hoping they wouldn't.

I think I know what I want to do here, but let me take a moment to make sure.

I am indeed sure that with the #9 pick overall I will draft:

Spoiler:
Thailand

I will work on a writeup once I'm a little bit more awake.

I did have half a hope to grab up the Thai on my swing-back next round.

I am going to vote on this draft & express my displeasure for a certain pick that would not make my top 115. You have been forewarned.

For the centerpiece of our festival we will feature the varied flavors of Thailand, where the long list of ingredients in each meal will give your taste buds a workout. Whether you like things spicy or cool, salty or sweet or sour, crunchy or smooth, you'll find something to like about each dish in this tent.

Thai cuisine varies by region, each with many of its dishes being originally brought in from or influenced by neighboring countries and by traders from the rest of Asia and Europe. But don't be fooled: Thailand has taken these foods and perfected them, making it a gastronomical powerhouse in its own right.

Rat na - Taken from China and made into a classic Thai dish.

Massaman curry - Experts aren't even sure if this was a creation made by a merchant from UNDRAFTED, or if it instead evolved naturally through influence from nearby India and UNDRAFTED.

Looking for rice? You'll find plenty of options even for the strain of rice itself, to say nothing of what meals are made from them.

Khao khluk kapi - Fried rice cooked with shrimp paste and served with pork or chicken plus a variety of side items carefully chosen to provide contrasting flavors.

Chok mu sap - Rice porridge.

Want to try some exotic fruits?

Durians - The "king of fruits," which can grow as large as a watermelon. If you don't like its flesh, why not try its seeds?

There's a lot more to try out, but documenting it all in a single post would be an arduous task. Fortunately, our cooks are up to the task and you'll have a lot to choose from in this tent.
