I'm not suggesting we count down a clock for the opening pick of the game anytime soon, but once everyone knows the draft order and the fact that the game is running then how long should we give a player to pick?

12 hours?

I think a non firm 12 hours is good. Just using my time zone as an example, I don't think that if the person before made their pick at 6 PM and if whoever is on the clock shuts down for the night, they should lose their pick at 6 AM. I would think a couple extra hours grace period is ok in this case

12 is quite long

I'd suggest 4-6, starting tomorrow (since it wasn't necessarily clear it was starting over the weekend), with a reasonable dead zone in the overnight.

overnight dead zone is different for different people though

yes, but having one protects just about everyone (well, Americans and Euros).

Look at it this way: it's a 20 round draft. If two people take 12 hours per pick, and the other nine people get through 1 pick per day, we'll be done with this... about a week before Christmas. There's no reason it should take that long.

I think first we need to find out where everyone is from, then we can determine if a dead zone is possible

I'm happy to do whatever

A shorter clock will benefit me greatly since I'm online most of the time at home and at work and don't sleep much.

I'll let you guys decide the clock details and I'll just draft some movies...

I always get screwed over by dead zones in these things.

I mean, with a shorter clock, if you know you won't be around and your time might come up, just send your pick to someone, it's really not that hard

I'm definitely for the shorter clock. 12 hours is certainly too long.

Also changed my mind about draft order. Peurto Rico style is the way to go.

Good point. I'm with DWetzel

Ok, for the first pick I'm picking an all-time classic and considered by many, including Rotten Tomatoes, the best movie of all time. It was a ground-breaking move in many ways and is one that people continue to rewatch it and introduce it to new generations.

It falls into two categories: 9 and 24, and is the top pick for someone making a collection of movies to watch again and again.

Spoiler:

The Wizard of Oz

I've made the horrible mistake of getting my heart set on my first pick, by the way. Don't disappoint me, people.

I've got a definite first pick in mind but think there is ~50% chance it's not there when it gets to my turn

not set my heart on it though.

There are a few picks I've set my heart on but there's ~0% chance that anybody else wants them

Also Wizard of Oz

not a first round pick for me, but a very solid pick nonetheless

I'm not going for a go watch once and just talk about movie. I'm going for a collection of great movies that you want and will see again and again.

I don't hate the pick either. I also don't think there is a bad strategy with regard to how you want to build your roster.

Again I will state that my pick will be a reach at #3 overall but I can't risk it not being there on the way back for reasons that will become obvious.

Yeah, I never like being at the beginning or end of a snake draft. I have a long time until my next pick.

OK, this is not the movie I originally had in mind for my #1 pick, but it is still very high on my list of GOATs, and it does get rid of a couple of categories that I may find hard to fill with a movie I'm completely satisfied with in later rounds.

Filling in 5 categories - 6, 16, 22, 26 and 27, my #1 draft pick is:
