I think the world divides into those who recognise that as one of the great songs of this decade and people whose opinion on music and just about everything else can be safely ignored. Anyone else have a view?

So I guess it's the podium now or something.

Yet to reveal, Donk, Dexy, Nick.

Hey aren't Donk and Nick coming equal first or something? This could be important!

In 3rd place, scoring 9 points

Spoiler:
You know what podiums when everyone submits junk? Classics.

Spoiler:
Dexy with I Say a Little Prayer by Aretha Franklin

Always a pleasure to listen to Aretha, such a great voice. There are a lot of versions of this song around, but this has to be the best one.

Two enter, one leaves victorious.

In 2nd place, scoring 10 points

Spoiler:
DonkDonkDonkDonk with Who Knows Where the Time Goes? by Fairport Convention

Pretty song, great singer. Both speaks of its time but doesn't sound dated. I liked this immediately and it spent a long time at #1 in my rankings, but it ended up losing to a song that was a grower.

In 1st place, scoring 11 points

Spoiler:
Nick Royale with Silver Moons by Sunset Rubdown

First time I listened to this track I would have bet heavily against it coming #1 but two things happened after that: it grew on me a lot and the category sucked. Despite this growing on me I doubt it even podiums in other categories.

As a 35-year old I can relate to this track. Maybe these days are over now, indeed. I like the slightly unusual structure of the song. It's a song I'd call intriguing. Every time I listen to it, I want to listen to it again.

Well that was category 5, let us never speak of it again.

Sometimes you just have to shrug and say, wtf, that man's on crack, maybe he's trolling and we should just turn the scoring upside down.

I'm prepared to bet no one in the history of everything has ever sung along to that though.

Considering that song is the greatest song ever made it has no place at #2 of anything.

(I'll take it obv, but something something Nick royals euro trash)

Nick had this to say about it:

I dunno, for some reason when I imagine Nick, a particularly manly voice isn't part of the deal.

As someone who has listened to that track a number of times, I def started compulsively singing the "maybe these days are over, over now" bit. I think Donk's is a worse category fit. But I'm not judging these songs harshly on category anyway. Far be it from me to dictate the sort of things people want to sing along to.

#1 was like someone trying to cover Arcade Fire with a fake Scottish accent.

Has no hallmarks of a song to sing along to; accessable lyrics, simple structure, good vocals.

It's not an awful song, I just can't imagine anyone ever singing along to it.

No reveal tonight. Struggling with category 6 as well. Less outright bad songs but a dearth of really good ones as well. Picking a podium will take time.

This is a shining example right here.
Haha, Wes Music is one of my favorite genres.

This is a fantastic comment considering what you submitted.

Impossible not to sing along to Silver Moons if you're drunk.

Silver Moons is GOAT but really not singalong, lol category fit.

Cubs In Five still the best song for the category <_<

Good vocals usually make a song less good to sing along to, because you're going to botch it unless you can sing. You can shout along to Silver Moons at the top of your lungs and it's going to be amazing. How on earth am I supposed to be able to sing along to your song?

Category wasn't "a sing along song", but a song you like to sing along to. Which you displayed understanding for when you submitted something no one would ever find to be a sing along song.

And if you don't sing along to Silver Moons you're missing out.

Just like elite sportsmen increase participation in sport?

Singing your song would be more like attempting to free climb El Capitan because you've watched it on youtube, just not a good idea.

Trying to sing baa baa black sheep in tune is beyond my capabilities, so if I'm going to sing any song out of tune...

Anyway my song should have won as it is 100 times more listenable than yours

Maybe Nick really does have a manlier singing voice than me. I do a kinda high-pitched wail that is very well suited to Youth Lagoon.

Ah, but I think he thought it was. He called it "one of the all time GOAT choruses". Think about it, you or Donk or Monkey or etc would not have described your songs like that.

Do you take a mouthful of food before singing Youth Lagoon to get the tone right?

You might need to get your prescription changed. The vocals are as clear as a bell. They just have reverb and a bit of chorus (?) on them.

Last edited by Monkey Banana; 03-29-2015 at 08:56 AM. Reason: bit of doubletracking in the chorus too

I can't really imagine Donk singing along with Who knows where the time goes? but it's by miles the best song in this round. Sandy

Aretha's kinda a Hallelujah but obviously several leagues higher than the balls you chose for number one.

CV: "In our group of friends there's a particular genre of music known disparagingly as "Wes Music". It's directionless rootsy sort of stuff with a singer who either can't sing well or for some reason is declining to do so."

Having heard CV try to sing, I assumed this was exactly the kind of music that he liked
