I actually like 7S after 5D. As south, you have controls in everything, and absolutely no trump losers. The biggest issue is if they lead a heart through you prematurely, or they get an opening club ruff. With AKxxxx, you can likely set up the suit, unless pard has xxx in clubs, and they fail to break. Even then, you still have a few chances with a club-heart squeeze. I'd say 7 is probably >50%, even with an opening heart lead.

Once you think you have a good shot for a grand slam, its better to go fast here imo, since you know pretty much what both you and your partner have. You could also cue-bid 6, trying to induce 7 X down a lot, but I think your odds are good enough with the grand that its just worth bidding it here.

Re: Bridge

After 50 hands the final count was I played one making game, and 3 doubled down 2 or 3. One of my more tilting days of bridge ever. Every bid failing we make, every bid opps making working. Still somehow got 1.14...still leaves me .67 short lol...likely waiting until January then...

Ouch

+1 to just bidding 7 over 5D, it is a small gamble that partner doesn't have 3 small clubs, but that is very unlikely, and even if he does maybe you'll run good.

I also bid 7S; myrm's explanation of why is solid. Plus we may get doubled after the quick auction, and I'm planning on making.

If partner opened with queen empty seventh I will be annoyed and we will have a talk. (If it's white/red and we're playing light preempts, that might give me pause but I probably still bid it.)

Actually, that would lead to a fun (lol) play decision: you bid 7S but pard opened with Q98xxxx of spades and some club holding that is not xxx. When he leads the spade queen, east plays low. Ick.

Re: Bridge

VR quite possibly my favorite POGger of all time. POG really hasn't been the same without her.

I would bid 5NT, if I had agreements about answers to it (which could be as simple as 6c=no top, 6d=Qs, 6h=Ks, 6S=As, 6NT=two top), otherwise I would blast 7S, because it is a cool thing to do.

Re: Bridge

One thing about playing above your MP total - 99% of everyone thinks they do.

So annoyed - was up at 5am, but my internet was down til 6, and I missed all but the last hand of Grall.
