The problem is there is probably no way to find that out, as partner probably took your 2NT as a natural bid, thus his 3C bid is probably Stayman. (Maybe with a random on BBO it's about as likely to have been taken as unusual, idk.)

It's possible that after 3H – 3NT (or 3S); 4C partner will be able to work it out, but good luck.

have to believe almost any partner looking at a hand with probably 4 or 5 hearts in it would not take 2nt as natural. 1 heart shows 5 hearts and 2 hearts shows probably 3-4 hearts so my partner is probably looking at the rest since i have a void. so i still think 3 hearts has to be a big club raise

Re: Bridge

lol hand, random partner

w/r imps, rho deals and passes

QJ743
AKJ85
7
Q2

opponent silent throughout, bidding goes:

1s - 2d
2h - 3c (no idea if this is 4th forcing or natural)
3h - 4c

i was kind of expecting an actual club holding without heart support to just bid 3NT, now wtf do we do?

Re: Bridge

5C. (I'm taking it as a natural, forcing [debatable if you're not playing 2/1], and incredibly shapely. You have been asked to choose, so choose. Partner knows you are probably 5–5 and does not give a damn.)

If partner passes that he should have approximately x x Axxxxx Axxxx (in which case you will go down), or preferably better: he will often have one minor suit king (in which case you will usually make 5C); when he has both he will probably go slamming (or would have already). He could also be 0–1 in the majors (with a doubleton we might well be playing that major).

True. Most of the time, with most holdings, I suppose partner will work it out. But if he has three dead, good luck.

At the table it's also moderately likely we'd be cruising toward a misinformation or unauthorized information ruling, btw. If both myrm and his partner take this 2NT bid as unusual it will look like an agreement; I have to assume there will be a failure to alert (2NT unusual would be alterable here, as it is not a jump), which opps might argue helped talk RHO out of a 3H bid and which will also, in theory anyway, conveys the unauthorized information that partner is taking your 2NT it as natural. (If 2NT is natural, 3C Stayman would not be alertable so that bid isn't a problem... yet) Or there could easily have been an explanation given by one or both partners, which could easily be incorrect. (In fact, it will be incorrect if it is anything other than "no agreement".) All in all, it's a mess. I would expect 60% of flight A pairs and 75% of flight C pairs to let it all go, but a majority of flight B pairs will be having a long talk with the director almost regardless how the rest of the hand goes.

Edit: For anyone who doesn't know this, if myrm or his partner is asked about the meaning of this auction and they have never discussed it, I'm serious (and correct) that the right answer is simply that you do not have an agreement. "I'm taking it as..." both gives opps more than they are entitled to and passes further unauthorized information to your partner. (An interesting question arises if you have an agreement about analogous auctions, but not this one — some questions in this area are gray.) Often opponents will get their noses out of joint if you decline to tell them how you're taking a bid about which you have no agreement, but a competent director will back you up.

Re: Bridge

Just got back from the Denver Regional. I had a really fun time. I also played in my first KO. Trip report from that:

Our team has a total of about 3800 masterpoints, which makes us the 48th highest MP team. This means we are the bottom team in Bracket 3.

First round: Our opponents missed three cold slams, and our teammates found them.

Second round:
Brag: Got to second round
Brag: Our opposing team is Robert Todd, Meg Myers, Meg's partner (I forgot her name), a good junior, and a client.
Beat: Our opposing team is Robert Todd, Meg Myers, Meg's partner (I forgot her name), a good junior, and a client.
Variance: After 12 boards, we're up by 14 IMPs (it should be 25 but I blew defending a game)
Beat: They take the client out after the first half
Brag/variance: We hold on to win by 7 IMPs.

Third round: This is super bizarre. The first board, they bid a normal 4H, but happen to make 6 because two finesses work. The guy starts freaking out because he thinks they're behind. The next board, we bid and make a cold 3NT, but he's convinced that his partner misdefended it. He then goes on monkey tilt and starts bidding a bunch of outrageous slams. After 12 boards, we're up by 71 IMPs. After the next 12, we win the round by 114.

Fourth round: This round is closer, but they didn't get to some games, and we won!. The big hand is this:

K J 9 6 5

A T 9 8 6 5
K 7

K Q J T 9 7 5 2
K J 4 2
A

They bid to 6, but we bid 7:diamond;X (one opponent had both major aces).

So, after four sessions, I end up with 21.99 gold points, which apparently means that my color requirements for life master are done. Woot.

Pass, before LHO gets a read on us that we're ready to pound this into oblivion.

Second choice 2NT (natural ldo), but you know partner's going to try to make us play hearts then, and we're not going to like it.

I'll pass partner's reopening double (maybe I should bid 3NT though given the vulnerability), and bid 3NT over partner's 3H. If the opponents get any higher, that's what we have the red X cards for.
