Re: Bridge
Oops, dummy has kxx clubs, hand has ajxx clubs. Still same idea. Go up with the As to prevent going down. Doing this has the added bonus of the stiff king dropping and rho playfully cursing you.

Geez.

Last night we defended 6S, and I opted to not lead my stiff trump. We beat it two (P had J9xx of trump, and declarer guessed the trump length wrong). I had told my P about this discussion about how leading stiff trumps is typically not very good (if you want to know if a trump lead is stiff, ask yourself if your opponents are either very bad or expert+), and I joked with him after the hand about how i could have led my stiff trump.
When we were getting results, I heard a guy ask the director "do you think in general it's a bad idea to lead stiff trumps?"

Re: Bridge
I think I'm inclined to bid 3D. 2S is going to make, and I think I have a very reasonable chance to make 3D, and a very slim chance of getting X'd (I'm actually kind of hoping for it).
Probable worst defense for us is a diamond to the ace, then a diamond. But this doesn't even seem so bad, since partner probably has 5 diamonds and certainly has <= 2 clubs.
edit: I think X is fine. You've got the goods.
edit2: hmm, tapping you early might be a better defense, but I think it works out roughly the same if there are 5 trump in dummy. Of course, if there are only 4 trump in dummy there might be some trouble depending on the trump position.

Re: Bridge
I think the question is how many diamonds to bid — 5D has play on most layouts, but entries to dummy will obviously be at a premium. If partner doesn't have the diamond jack there could be issues.
(Note that partner's pull of the double suggests that he almost certainly has short clubs, and therefore usually 5+ diamonds.)
I think my plan is bid 3D, expect opps to compete to 3S, bid 4D (which will look like a mistake, but isn't), and hope to be doubled, as exactly ten tricks is a moderately likely result. (This assumes partner knows what he's doing — if he was likely to take the double of 2C as some kind of takeout, then I probably sell to 3S.) If opps compete to 4S I hope partner can work out from his spade and diamond holding what to do.

Re: Bridge
If we defend spades I lead the diamond queen, to confuse declarer and to induce a shift if partner gets in.

Re: Bridge
So what does this sequence mean 1NT-2C-2H-4C, is it gerber or splinter?

Re: Bridge
To me that's a splinter (and the potential confusion arising from it an excellent piece of evidence against gerber).

Re: Bridge
Yeah that hand came up last night when I had Kxxx KQxxx Axx J and bid it that way. Partner responded 4S so I figured she was responding to Gerber and just said **** it and went to 6. It made somehow.

Re: Bridge
To me
1n-2c
2M-?
3m is 6m-4oM
3oM is any splinter
4m one is gerber and one is a balanced slam try w fit.
I have no strong preference btwn 4c gerber and 4d gerber.
