Crazy thing is I didn't even play that great. Just GIB was giving up games that should of been down. I mean thanks for playing the 9 of hearts on board 2 GIB. Hell I should of doubled board 5 but I didn't think the auction was over.

p - 1c - (1h) - 2c
(2d) - ?

What do various bids mean here? I have a casual partner and we didn't know how to explore for 3N under various circumstances where bidder has stops in one of the opponents and not the other. What should double, 2s, 2h & 3d mean?

What I'd imagine playing with a random adv+ player:

* DBL = penalty -- you've bid and raised a suit, so there's no need for takeout. If you want to bid more, just bid more.
* 2S = some sort of game try, as dictated by your agreements. What would 2S mean after 1H-2H? For me, a chunky spade suit with inv+ values. Partner is limited so this is a good hand. Partner can look at Ax of spades and feel good about prospects in clubs, or he can raise spades if he has spades
* 2H and 3D can be a few things, but they are showing extra strength of course and I'd assume without discussion that they show a stopper. Pard's priority should be to bid NT with the other suit stopped. This could also be some manner of GT/ST in clubs, if opener bids more after partner bids NT or clubs, so that you don't have to push all GT/ST hands thru 2S.

Well that was one of the sickest last second Meckwell comebacks I've seen. Lets go to the other table. You are ahead by 10 last board of the semis in the GNT (not that you know the exact amount)

w/w IMPs LHO deals

AKQJ5
AKQT
J
AQJ

Auction goes

(P)-1D-(1NT)-X
(2C)-P-(P)-???

Bathurst is on your right...

Spoiler:
I think it is close between 7NT and X. If you have the methods to correctly find grand after this go for it. North chose 6NT. 7NT is a trick 1 claimer when partner lays down T/Jxx/AKQxx/T876. There are also 13 tricks available defending clubs. 6NT+1 loses 11 when Meckwell finds 7NT. gg

must be nice to pick up a 27 count when you're down 10 going into the last board

I missed the match -- I assume 2nd seat didn't open at the other table?

Obviously Meckwell is opening T/Jxx/AKQxx/T876 but they didnt get the psych, not like it should matter

Also board 29 had a 3S at both tables where the defense has 5 top tricks if they take them...yep Meckwells team wins 6 win their defense doesn't

Fireman's team putting a severe damper on my fantasy Spingold bracket. How inconsiderate of them.

fmk is playing good friends of mine from victoria tomorrow unfortunately, tough draw for them and would normally be cheering for both to advance

also a bad link

guessing from post times, if it's the board where he overtook partner's second diamond lead from QJT, then I have no idea (perhaps he had a vision of needing to cash out, thinking partner couldn't have the ten of diamonds because he didn't lead it at trick 2... but then wouldn't declarer cover the jack with the king... so, I dunno)

Passed to you in 4th,

You have

KT9
AQJ
9753
Q84

Is this an open at mp? (We are vul vs nv)
What about imps?
Bridge Quote

marginal, but I think it's probably worth an open and pass whatever partner bids
Bridge Quote

It complies with rule of 15, so open. If RHO cannot open in 3rd hand nv vs v it seems we have the balance of power

It's 100% an open in my book.

Ok interesting, I thought there was enough to downgrade that pass could be ok but I guess always better to err on the side of bidding in these spots

Fun hand playing with mom on BBO

-
Q8753
-
AKQJ9852

First seat R/R IMPs

Not like anyone knows how to bid these fluke hands. Anyway auction goes

1c-(1s)-2d-(2s)
3h-(p)-3nt-(4s)
6c-ap

Anyways LHO leads the As and partner comes down with

KQJ
JT
KQJT75
T7

Thankfully RHO has the Ad. Making 7 missing 3 aces lol
