The Categories

1. A great song from a great album that was released after 2002

2. A song from a video game or tv show

3. A song that defines the essence of you in some way, shape or form

4. A song you don't think I've heard before that I absolutely must listen to right this second what the **** were you doing with your life before hearing this song binkles jesus

5. A song that either you can play/sing, or a song you wished you could play/sing

6. Something from a genre that you'd consider to be out of your comfort zone

7. A song that never fails to evoke an emotional response (happiness, sadness, laughter, longing, whatever)

8. Something you think I might hate but you really hope I love

Categories - The TL;DR Version

1. A great song from a great album that was released after 2002

Pretty self-explanatory, the idea if that if I like the song and start looking for more stuff I immediately have a whole album to explore

2. A song from a video game or tv show

Boundaries for this category will be fairly liberal. Remixes and re-makes are certainly fine (if you're stuck for inspiration then OverClocked Remix is a great website), as are mashups, etc. I've heard rap songs in the past that used the super mario/simpsons themes and they'd be acceptable entries. What I don't really wanna see are mainstream songs that are used in a TV show/video game with no changes, if that makes sense. If you're unsure, shoot me a PM or something

3. A song that defines the essence of you in some way, shape or form

I get the feeling this category will either be really easy or really difficult to find a song for. Was there a an artist/piece of music that influenced your life in some way, is there a song that perfectly encapsulates a belief or experience, something to describe an event or soundtrack your life? Pretty much anything goes here, although an explanation may help sometimes :P

4. A song you don't think I've heard before that I absolutely must listen to right this second what the **** were you doing with your life before hearing this song binkles jesus

Judging will be pretty arbitrary and capricious here, but the intention is to submit something you think (but don't know for sure) that I haven't heard before. Eg. submitting a song from a local band I'll have had no chance of hearing before is fine. Finding a post where I've said I've never heard [song]/[band] and then submitting from there is not fine. In terms of judging I'll probably be scoring like this: Haven't heard and like it and what the **** was I doing with my life before this song >>>>> have heard and like it >> haven't heard and don't like it >>>> have heard and don't like it

5. A song that either you can play/sing, or a song you wished you could play/sing

Ever heard a song you just absolutely wished you could perform? I'm sure you have. I want to know what you guys either can perform, or would like to. And I strongly encourage submitting your own recordings/attempts either as your submission or in addition to your submission, even (or maybe especially) if you think it's bad

I know when I enter Walrii there are always songs I think are great but I worry won't be appreciated. This is the category in which risks should be taken (tbh all categories should be that, but ESPECIALLY this category)

Pretty simple, if there were two songs you really wanted to submit from one category, put the other one here. If you're anything like me this category is going to be just as torturous as the others :P

Submissions

- Please PM me a numbered list with your entries

- Explanations for choices are encouraged but by no means mandatory

- I prefer Youtube links for songs but if it isn't there then use something else and I'll find a way to listen

- I doubt I cap the number of people who can enter

- Nobody likes down-time between Walruses, so I'm going to say that submissions are due on the 28th of February, it's flexible though

The Scoring

Expect little rhyme or reason. There will probably be bonus points awarded for originality.

What I Like

If you've seen any of my prior Walrus submissions you'll know that I have pretty eclectic tastes. It's not at all unusual to see me submit classical music, hip-hop, classic rock and jazz all in the same Walrus. So I'll just say there's a ton of music I like and not much I automatically hate. Also I'm easy to influence, and I'd rather you guys submit stuff you like than stuff you think I might like, if that makes sense.

That said, here are some songs I've heard in prior Walrus games over the last few months that I really enjoy (and this is far from an exhaustive list, I promise, Walrus GOAT):

Having said that, damn the Binary Star track is awesome.

"What I like" part got me all excited, I might actually do good for once in a Walrus.
