We bought some sheep. From this proper Welsh flock, not the New Zealanders, and at a price tbc delivery tbc. Only 3 but it's a start and I've got some leads to build from here.

1 female 2 male which is suboptimal but we'll get there.

Lambs can be as little as £15, ewes probably more like £50+ but some go for £250 or more, and a top flight ram can be multiple bitcoins.

Interesting fact: rams are still auctioned in guineas which are £1.05.

We'll do chickens maybe in the autumn maybe next spring, but the land probably won't support cows (unless we get some miniature ones).

That can be a huge variety of things

How often does it seem to happen? At regular intervals or seemingly at random? Is there any particular programs always running when it happens?

Open up Windows Task Scheduler and see if there is anything that might correspond to it

Here is another thing you can try.

Download Process Monitor. Run as admin.

Go to Filter > Filters... and add "Operation is Process Start then Include". Delete any other filters that are set to "Include".



You will see an entry every time a new process is launched on your PC. You can leave this running a while I guess and wait for a while until the window you're looking for starts. Try to note the exact time (to the second) on your system clock when it launched. Then click the "Capture" button in the toolbar to stop capturing. (While waiting for the program to run you may want to periodically hit "Clear" on the toolbar to clear old entries; the program could use up quite a bit of memory if you leave it running for a long time).

In the main window you'll see the command line of the process, and parent PID (process ID). You can then go to Task Manager and find the PID to see which process is launching it.

This might help track it down.

I may have discovered the source of the problem after some Googling. I opened Microsoft Office for the first time over the weekend just before these problems started, and one of the suggestions to solve this problem was to go to Task Scheduler > Microsoft > Office and then disable "OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration" (source)

I'll see if that solved it. I have Windows 7.

The thing is, command window randomly popping up and disappearing is a common thing that can happen with any poorly programmed script that just launches a task.

It could be Office, and according to the linked thread it has been fixed in a patch, so I'd suggest maybe trying that patch rather than disabling update stuff.
