I will say that what is or isn't adult top 40 is not going to help you here.

a few possibilities:

nickelback
sloan
crash test dummies
matthew good band

there's a bunch more probably on this list but those are a few that stood out that aren't from ontario, and weren't active before 1980.

anyone have any other suggestions? we should prob do an "is it one of these bands" type question then try to narrow it down from there somehow

I assume Nickelback & CTD have top 40 hits, but I lack the WIM to confirm.

Could eyebooger be so cruel as to pick a Nickelback song for a Q20??

Surely that would be a ban worthy offense.....

Based on the definition eb gave of "adult top 40", I'm pretty sure Nickelback wouldn't qualify for that list. Dont know about Crash Test Dummies.

...so I assume this band has never had any type of top 40 hit.

If that's what he meant then I have no idea where to go from here, cause that would have to be a fairly obscure band.

I wonder if it could be like a TV theme song or something.

Hint: There are other top 40 charts outside the scope of what was asked thus far

What about a Christian Rock band like downhere?

I've never heard of them but I just googled Canadian bands from the 90s and they popped up and seem to fit

edit: actually they only formed in 1999 so unlikely

I wonder is there any significance to the fact eb said top 40, as all the Canadian billboard charts are top 30, 50, 75 or 100 it seems... whereas Mainstream Rock and Alternative Songs are the only top 40s under Rock

I would imagine the band had a top 40 hit in one of these:

Unless it is a Christian Rock band

I want to ask if the song charted in the Canadian Hot 100 but I'm terrible at this game so I'll let others decide

Asking whether a 1990s song appeared on a chart that started in 2007 unlikely to pay dividends, but you guys are in charge here, not me.

So you're saying there's a chance.

No, wait, you're not saying that.

I propose asking if the band is among the top 100 on this list

If yes we can nail it down from there, if no then i have no idea where to go

No idea if that's a good question or will lead to eventual success, but might as well ask it for lack of alternate ideas.
