What help is it for him to know the category unless he plans to research that category in advance?

Either he doesn't use the information, making it pointless that he knows it, or he uses it and researches that topic in advance, which is surely against the rules?

Yes, this.

While researching a broad category beforehand isn't necessarily against the rules, he wouldn't have time to because I literally hit him up for his decision right before I'm about to post the next question. So he would make his decision based on how knowledgeable he is on the subject
