Such a player doesn't exist with the exception of Isildur1 maybe. It is pretty dumb to give action to anyone anytime if you want to make money even if you are the best in the world.

None of it is nonsense. The bumhunters have been a step ahead for years. The bumhunters that go to the forums to spread anti-bumhunter propaganda have been two steps ahead for years.

I don't have any money online but we could play seven live $1k HUSNGs if you're ever at a casino I'm at. I'll be at the Borgata Winter Open this month. PM me.

I think you have to see playing better players as an investment. I see a lot of people playing the same stakes they were playing 9 months ago because all they do is bumhunt extremely aggressively and multitable HU tables because they can show a profit playing a generic style vs fish.

You should find a balance between making money by playing weaker players and challenging yourself and investing in furthering your education as a poker player by occasionally playing players better than you.

Personally my policy is to play anyone at the stakes I'm rolled for and to "game select" at higher stakes to first, offset the losses I occur by playing the best players at my stakes, and second, not go broke because even though I love a good challenge, I'm playing poker for money.
I feel that this offers the best compromise between evolving as a player and making a living.

Other factors include your age, financial situation, etc...obviously.

It's definitely possible to be smart about the way you approach game selection while still challenging yourself and not being a bumhunter.
I agree with one of the above posters that this word is overused and misunderstood.
According to some people, Ivey would be a bumhunter, only Isildur would escape the label. This is not a realistic standard. Not everyone is a 20yo genius degen with no life responsibilities whatsoever and it doesn't mean that he's the only one who deserves to make money from poker.

Word of advice: When you do play someone you know is better than you, understand that you're almost paying for coaching and make the most out of such sessions.
Play them only when you're feeling fresh and alert and make sure to review the session afterwards very thoroughly to get as much educational value from it as possible.

Yeah, I played 2 ppl recently that were definitely better than me and I knew this going in. I feel like I def learned some stuff from playing them and my game is stronger than it was before. I asked them after the match if they minded pointing out some things they didnt like about my game. The bottom line though is that youre just not going to get better by watching videos and doing random math work. Like OK that might help a tad and at first, but you absolutely have to be playing tougher competition if you want to improve.

And also, like your edge isnt even going to be that bad against most ppl. I've played certain regs who are absolutely terrible over a buuunch of hands and they've beaten me. It's not like you just have no shot or something.

I hear ya TC, I mean I think you even won one time when we played. If that isn't a testament to there being little edges between regs, I don't know what is.

Just to clarify-- I'm not saying that exclusively bumhunting is right. I didn't do that before and don't do it now. I'm just saying that the mystical 2+2 Bracelet of the Champion won't materialize around your wrist after you log 50k hands vs guys that you know have an edge on you. When you lose money vs the best player at you level, the people that don't call you a bumhunter aren't going to ship you a refund. When you win money vs the fish, them calling you a bumhunter doesn't take it away. But maybe I'm wrong and people don't care about the money and are playing for fun.

I was being sarcastic. You were trying to state that there wasn't a big difference between a 200nl reg and a 5knl reg. There definitely is.

To continue my rambling wtf is the actual definition of "bumhunter" anyway? It's not even close to a clearly defined term, its was created by a bitter HSNL player here on 2+2.

Cliffnotes of my last 3 posts: all these 2+2 labels being thrown around all the time annoy the **** out of me
The HU Cash forum needs to be segregated, keep the bumhunters w/ the bumhunters and the reg hunters w/ the reg hunters. I am sure you, PD, Codecci, Barewire, Air Jamaica, Gerbalnater etc. will have a blast talking about how to improve your red line, how fish always hit n run, how you technically are not a bumhunter since the definition is not clearly defined etc. Us reg hunters: Kjemmy, WcGrider, IFS, Greenway, Chesterfish, TC, and Jungleman, will be too busy talking about traveling, the most expensive cities/countries and what it is like living there, our big breasted gfs, expensive things, cars, guns, cool restaurants, sluts, you name it.

You can hate on us all you want Meltdowncity, but we can't hear you, we are too busy lounging on the beach w/ our sombreros and a giant grin on our face. I am srry you are not a natural born warrior, and tbh, I can't really relate to you. It is hard for me to put myself in your shoes because I have never been so weak, I always had heart. You know what I do when I begin to feel weak? I hit the gym, or I run until I feel very sick, I vomit out the weakness. I have a difficult time understanding how you can live your life being such a coward, but I don't hate you for it. I have no hate in my heart, I guess that is the difference between the two of us. If you want to float around mediocrity the rest of your life that is fine w/ me, but don't hate on us for having the balls to challenge the world, and then winning.

Lol at me being a bumhunter for telling a guy that seemed to be caught up in the anti-bumhunter hype not to focus so much on never bumhunting. It's solid advice to a SSNL player that may be just as good as the average person sitting at MSNL but is earning less than half because of something he made up in his head. Until sites have a king of the hill setup, you will be shooting yourself in the foot by not sitting as high as you can afford to and game selecting. Period.
