Speaking from experience, i think you should get a coach who crushes levels only slightly above what you play. When i played 2/4 I had a decently priced coach who was crushing 10/20-25/50, and a lot of what he said to me went right over my head, and its only when he made training videos a year later that it reminded me of things he'd said and finally clicked with me.

i know that when i say ill only be investing 15% of my br into coaching is optimistic

but i feel that learning has so much value and i dont really care about how much $ i have right now because i only spend about 1k per month. I just turned 20 last month and I know what i want in life. i want to become a millionaire playing poker

its a whole learning process that i need to acquire in order to obtain what i desire.
i think its the same as going to med school in order to become a doctor, law school to become a lawyer, engineer, nurse, vet, whatever!

it takes years of learning and practice.

i never really liked school anyways. i always liked sports, games and competition. im also open minded and i like philosophy. one thing about myself is that i dont like to be bossed around or assigned to something. i dont want to be stuck somewhere in a uniform where i have no idea how long ill be able to support it.

i want to be my own boss. i want to work when i want to. i want to get up in the morning and go to work in my pyjamas.

and someday when ill have kids, i want to be around them so ill be able to raise them in a good manner. not like someone whos always away on jobs working day and night.

i say this because it wasnt that case for me. and life for me was not as easy as most of you here so... to be able to make a substantial amount of monies playing poker is my dream and i know this because i have never dreamed of anything before. because a lot of things i considered in life were just not in my range, they were not possibilites for me

my only escape was college and i did not have the monies nor did my parents. now tho, i have this. and im going all out for it

wish me luck.

Once you make enough that you can pay for college, go to college. It's very easy to play poker and go to college, and getting a degree is a great way to hedge the risk you are taking with a poker career. I make good money playing poker and knowing I have a solid plan B is very comforting in this hellish game.

I've been playing Poker for the last 10 months 'professionally' ie. as my full income. I literally will kill myself if I have to do it for the next 10 months (even though I made good money, I hated what I was sacrificing).

So I used my degree and got a job as a Film Producer. Much happier now, and I didn't even have to quit web based Poker. It takes a special type of person to be able to play it full time and be content. As soon as you arn't, do something else.

even though he hates me, when i used to play 6max with him (a long time ago now) he always gave me the most problems. while i think most coaches are def. not worth it you are better off paying more for him than half as much for others you wont get much out of.

what stakes were you playing? And how much per year would you have to make to go back to poker?

From December to last month I was playing 100-600nl, wherever the action. Now I just play 100nl for an hour or so a day for some extra tax-free cash. I'm soooo much happier, even though I'm now earning considerably less from the game and it's retreated into just a hobby for me (but I heart these forums :>)..

Honestly, I was never more miserable in my life doing this. After I graduated I thought Poker would be a cool job. It was my intention to try it out for a year, see if I liked it or not, then decide. Well, after a few months I started to become disillusioned with it, losing my passion for improving my game. The money was cool, but I couldn't handle the social isolation in the daytime and I wanted to be involved in Film Projects and feel some self worth.

I wish anyone the best of luck doing it for a living, but it broke me mentally.

I don't think you could tempt me with any amount. Working on Screenplays, shooting Film etc for a meagre wage >>>>>>>> beating 400nl hu (in my experience).
