the guy is pretty fishy and is clueless about bet sizing generally. he makes huge 3bets and often over bets, bets really small in huge pots with both air and good hands. he almost never folds preflop unless 3bet. he often bets a small pair on the river on wet boards if i check down

546 hands
vpip 81 pfr 45
donk flop 7
3bet 19 fold 3bet 43 fold to 4bet 60
cbet flop 60 cbet turn 40 cbet river (67 2/3)
flop af 1 turn af 2 river af 3
wtsd 39

The guy ended up winning 3 buyins off me today. I beat him for a buyin and a half yesterday. But today he ran SO GOOD. When ever I had two pair plus hed have a straight etc it was so titlting! He ran like god today. I couldnt value town him ever because i almost never hit any boards.
He is also a player that only plays half stacked and has his refill to keep refilling to a half stack.

So given these stats is he basically a loose passive player?

Was this on Bovada? I've played a tough opponent like that. Never tried too hard to figure out the exact strategy to beat them, just figured not playing them was the best way, because they have very very good reads or are cheating.

yes, all factual characteristics given by you (opposed to your opinions, like "clueless about betsizings") are also characteristics of top regs - large 3bet pre sizings, many overbets, many balanced underbets, very high vpip in single raised pots and ability to valuebet thin

I wouldn't say that it's likely villain is a huge fish, but it's definitely a stretch to say that pretty much every HU reg plays exactly in the manner in which OP had described.

What stakes are you playing OP?

but a lot of the time when he would do something like bet small hed do it with a ****ty hand and snap fold to a raise. so i dont see how thats a good play. and he would bet on the river with a hand where he was either getting a call from ace high or something better, when would that ever be a good play unless hes positive hes getting called by ace high?

100nl on betcoin but it converts to like 50nl usd at the time i played him

not every, just most of the top ones (large 3bet pre is just current metagame, rest is being balanced)

as for an actual advice: OP, don't play this player, he's better than you and you can't even comprehend why is that (bet/fold using small sizing is NEVER a good play? really?)

he was doing it a lot and folding to raises a lot. that is what i meant by not a good play lol

and yes upon further inspection hes most likely a reg because he multi tables multiple hu stakes. i still dont think hes super duper good though

Balanced how, if you care to explain? I'm not sure how you can be certain anything villain is doing is balanced based on the information given.

Since you said he multi tables, he probably is a reg. I also wouldn't assume he's terrible (although I don't really get shortstacking HU, I never see regs do it at 25nl). If you really want to beat this player, do it the old fashioned way: watch him play other players for a while until you find some kind of leak, or keep playing him yourself.
