Found a strategy and I don't know if it is good.

Hello,

Someone on this forum said for begginers tagpoker.co.uk is a good (free) video site.

I have read some strategies and watched the first 4 videos about the heads up bankroll series from Paris_Tilton (brokerstars). But he plays a small ball style much limping keep pots small.
Is this a good strategy? Everyone always say "Aggression is the key in HU".

i dont understand why people associate small ball with passive. it has nothing to do with each other
what is there to explain?

pretty much everyone on 2p2 plays "big ball"

I thik small ball could be effective, but its likely much more difficult to play

every strategy has its pros and cons, ive never really played too much smallball but i've played against villains who have given me trouble playing that strategy.

id play a few hundred sngs/or few k hands and try out a couple different styles and see what you like the best.

This is a common misconception a bigger pot doesnt mean a better pot. There is a thin line between aggressiveness and recklessness. I had a guy shove every time I raised and I said "nice lets flip this badboy" and his reply "sorry I am trying to play good aggressive poker". The operative word in his statement "good".

I used to play smallball but switched to longball. There are quite a few ppl playing smallball in HUSNGs here (not as much in cash)

In realitly the general style u'll adopt doesn't matter, choose whetever ur more comfortable with, both styles have their pros and cons, and in HUSNG profitablility depends so much on adapting and exploiting.

As an example, I took coaching from Cog Dis, the master of smallball imo, but this doesn't mean Im a smallballer myself

It doesn't matter what he does pre-flop. You should be trying to benefit from his post flop thoughts. You want to develop hand reading skills and learn to exploit your opponents. Another good player explaining their thoughts should help you out no matter what style they are playing.

Re: Found a strategy and I don't know if it is good.

I get similar questions all the time (both about BrokerStar and about Cog Dissonance, who I believe coached BrokerStar a bit prior/early on with his site).

I think these styles can actually be easier to learn for beginners, and in the regular speed and slower structure speeds they can be great ways to win money fast, all the way up through the $100 levels probably (Hell, Cog beats $100 pretty solidly I believe).

The only major drawback that I see with a limping style preflop is in the turbo speed games, particularly FTP. While I think you can have success with limping from the button, it's really going to hurt you when you face very aggressive preflop players, as those situations where you facing big 3bettors, limp raisers and so on are going to be less familiar to you than to a player who was raising his buttons from day 1.

In the turbos there are also sometimes very tight OOP players that you will absolutely benefit from by raising a very wide % of buttons (even 100% of buttons) and exploiting their tight OOP play from step 1. You can't do that by limping.

But as far as the important thing, making money, these styles can be good for some players.

To each his own though, I have players come to me badmouthing this style, I have others that love it. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other people who coach and make videos and post strategy that advocate raising their buttons.

But Broker's stuff is all free and the worst thing you can really say about him is that he teaches low stakes players how to stop losing money. Not much of an insult if you ask me.

lol.

OP, I don't think limping the majority of buttons is optimal, but you should experiment w/ both styles to see which one is more profitable. You can def still win limping a ton, but I just don't think it is optimal. GL
