Any tips for dealing with a maniac in HU cash. Played a seash today and this guy was ridiculous calling with a bottom pair 3x the pot on the river. Really high variance stuff quite often. I just don't know what to do against a player like that.

You don't know what to do against a player who calls 3x pot with bottom pair?

Might sound stupid, but no. Waiting for the nuts isn't going to bode well if I don't have the stack to make it worthwhile. If you have any tips I'm all ears. Playing against balanced players really isn't the issue, but this guy was all over the place.

The best answer is throw away your bluffing range and focus on your value range which is likely how this guy goes broke. Ex. U get AA or KK play it like u did hand that he called u down w bp. U don't need to wait for the nuts just play ur value hands but don't fire 3 streets w AKs if u missed. Play TPTK and NFDs aggressively but don't bluff rivers cuz V obv isn't folding. Hope u can understand that.

Playing against balanced players isn't an issue..?? Against a balanced and competent player, 99.5% of poker players are losing money to them. And if you knew how to play balanced, then this guy should be posing no problem to you.

That's like saying "I can beat 500NL Zoom, but I cant beat .2/.5."

Level 2 sarcasm. Profits in HUNL sure as heck don't come from people who don't overfold.

Against maniacs just play a lot tighter and consider calling more of their bets as opposed to raising. Let them put themselves into a tough spot.

As Leo said. If you engage him with his own game you are basically putting the outcome of the match on luck. Considering the fact that these wacko's are very likely to call you on 3 streets with just a pair of deuces on a A A K 7 6 board, when you have quads or a boat, by tightening it up you are slowly going to chip them away. Also, I try to categorize them into two categories : the way beyond help nutjobs who call your all-in on the above mentioned board with a pair of deuces and the simple nutjobs who don't call all in on the above mentioned board but they call 3 smallish to medium sized bets. It helps me to determine my strategy on how to get value off of them. As a hint, the beyond help nutjobs are usually the type who call a raise out of position and shove the flop or overbet the flop massively, like 500 into a pot of 80 when they hold like bottom pair, lol.
