50NL Tough spot against maniac 200bb deep

Poker Stars $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 2 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

Hero (BB): $144.92
BTN/SB: $106.93

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is BB with 9 A
BTN/SB raises to $2, Hero raises to $7, BTN/SB calls $5

Flop: ($14.00) 5 5 4 (2 players)
Hero bets $9, BTN/SB raises to $19,

Hero?

First thing to realize is that villain in this hand is a total psychopath who was playing absolutely crazy, which is unsurprising since he was constantly challenging me to play 1/2 and 2/4 lol, meaning he was playing below his means for fun. As the match developed, he started opening to 4x and essentially 3betting from the BB like close to every hand, so I had to adjust by playing very aggressively. Obv my hand here is like the nuts given this dynamic, so I thought I was pretty good on this super dry flop. I was a little concerned that if I just clicked it back here or whatever though, he would just shove and make my life hell. How should I play this?

and fwiw he was playing 72/68/45

Re: Tough spot against maniac 200bb deep

This is a ****ty situation in which I'd puke fold simply because more chips are likely to fall into the pot and we have A high OOP. Vs a maniac like this playing weak tight post-flop seems like my default. I never get completely passive, but I let the villain build the pot on "regular" hands I expect to take down. Aggression isn't bad, since your monsters won't be "revealed" when you do start playing back. In general though, get tighter and pick your spots wisely. This hand seems like a marginal situation, and if he's happy getting chips in to almost all pots just fold and wait for something better.

ridiculously easy fold and not just because of the most obvious on-the-surface reason. there are way better ways to fight back than with this hand on this board.

This may be spewy/terrible (please let me know if it is), but given villain's super aggression, would a c/c on this flop be unreasonable? Our hand is way ahead of his range like you said, a 9 or A gives us the absolute nuts, and a 2, 3, 4, or 5 wouldn't be so bad either.

c/c seems like we are going to be folding the best hand on turns and rivers on bad run outs for us, so betting is definitely superior. Maybe with a BD flush draw and some solid reads that villain will give up on later streets we can c/c.

I don't see how c/c is possibly spewy either?! It's the most passive line with the least variance...

Also OP I wouldn't 3b this hand very often at all vs a maniac at these stacks depths. It gets you a ton of ****ty spots like this one.

Re: Tough spot against maniac 200bb deep

Shipping our remaining 90$ to win the $42 that's in the middle means it has to work about 65% of the time if we have no equity at all. We probably have around 10-15% equity against his calling range, so I'd say the move has to work about half the time.

Don't like calling unless you are positive you can snap him down or you can fold turn comfortably on a card like Ts. If not I think you have to fold or take a check line from the start of the hand.

You're the one who knows if shipping is profitable here.

Re: 50NL Tough spot against maniac 200bb deep

why exactly is he 4xing? are you not folding the BB a lot to begin with?

This seems like a ridic high variance spot, it's not the spot I would choose to take a stand.

I feel like this is a pretty easy fold... even when hes bluffing he has a lot of equity. And what is our plan for the turn?

You'll get much better spots vs this type of guy than going broke with A high 200bb deep.
