3-betting range vs tight-passive players preflop?

What hands do you generally 3-bet pre vs tight-passive players and why?

Do you only 3-bet hands like 99+/AK only because their raising range is not really wide? Or...

-suited connectors like 67s, T9s?

-hands like AJ, QJ, QTs, etc.?

-junk hands?

And whats the reason for 3-betting or not 3-betting each of them?

Re: 3-betting range vs tight-passive players preflop?

depends on villains 4-betting range + how much hes calling 3 bets.

If hes only 4 betting AK/JJ+, but flats a ton of 3-bets then just make your 3 bet range value heavy, few bluffs. Make your 3 betting range anything that hes going to call dominated.

If hes folding a ton to 3 bets, just 3 bet a ton of junk and flat most of your value hands. Then adjust accordingly.

could you assign which specific hands you'd consider "value-heavy" here?

also, do we 3bet value-heavy hands like AJ (because he flats a ton of 3-bets) even if his open-raising range is tight? or do we take the more cautious route in that case and just flat AJ?

Re: 3-betting range vs tight-passive players preflop?

Got your PM, sorry for the late reply, been on holiday.

You have to assign what is going to be defined as "value heavy". This can only be found from playing hands vrs this type of villain and adjusting your range accordingly.

A general starting point would maybe be (roughly) 99+ A10+ KJ+

Take notes at showdown to get an idea on how far you can go.

take a look at his 3bet call % and afterwards mess around with pokerstove and decide a range that you'd be happy with.

So a quick example would be if your playing one of these guys, and youve decided that your only going to 3bet AQ+, you 3bet AQo and get to showdown where he shows A10, then you can take note that you can widen your 3bet range as AJ can be profitable against his calling range.
