Re: White House creates online petitions site - need 5,000 signatures

I'm really torn on this one right now. I could easily see it going either way.

Yes. We are going to get 5K signatures. It's a great opportunity to be heard.

I look forward to the response. Hopefully the response won't be the noncommittal stuff we already get from our elected officials.

Awesome! We are having our voices heard in a democracy as opposed to being silent because our outcry might harm our goals. It's idealistic but nice.

And, after all, we are poker players. It's in our nature to gamble, right?

The petition had its value in showing the president where we stand. It was foundational work that will, hopefully, pay its dividends later on.

I do get lunch and work out and stuff sometimes.

It's good to feel needed, though.

We definitely need to do it. IMO, it needs to be an anti-regulation petition to show how government has killed an industry. I don't think we should mention poker players should have the right to play, etc.

I think it's better to backdoor the idea through lobbying the congresscritters directly. Making it a public issue can easily invite public controversy that deep-sixes the goal.
He didn't promise a commitment. We'll simply get a response. We get responses from all the time from Congressmen...very few commit to anything.

IMO, the value here is to show the president the support behind this.

I wasn't trying to imply we shouldn't do this petition, I think we should. It just made me think of the last petition and I was wondering what ever become of it, did we get a response from the WH or did it get put in the trash.

If we get the 5k votes they say they will respond. Even if they think the idea is bad they will respond with a reason why. So at least we get a bit of insight into what the Obama administration thinks about online poker regulation.

Maybe they'll think its a good idea or maybe the response will be 'LOL Online poker YOU CRAZY'

Whomever is responsible for writing the text of the petition, please just make sure "Online poker" is well-defined so people don't think it's video poker we're talking about. Apparently many people --including legislators-- think online poker is video poker (I didn't realize that until reading another thread).

I'll be writing it.

I included verbiage on how our game differs from video poker in the prefilled PPA letter for that very reason. I'll look to include some that language in the petition.

You're so quick! You beat my ninja edit! (The thread I referred to was in PL, not NVG).

Anyway, good.
