So how will the 2-40 spread game work now? Do you have the options of betting 40 or 500, but nothing in between?

Re: Washington State - New betting limits

From my understanding, your options would be:

a) Betting anywhere from $2 to $40
b) Going all in if you have $500 or less.

My guess will be they will stick with the same 2-40 rules they had before and no one will use the $500 all in bet.

Re: Washington State - New betting limits

I lol'd so hard when I read this a few months back.

Do the people making the rules even know what poker is?

Give me a break.

Anyone seen the practical application of this law? I've been playing at Spirit Mountain in OR and have yet to wander up north in the last month.

I'd also love to know how the rule is effecting actual games.

I don't think any cardrooms are trying to use this new rule. I've emailed the gambling commission to ask about potential adjustments to the wording..... we will see.

Re: Washington State - New betting limits

From the gambling commission:

At their July 2009 meeting, the Commission filed for discussion a proposed rule change from staff that would remove wording that allows higher wagering limits for “all in” wagers in Texas Hold’em poker games. If adopted in September, this would put the limit for all poker wagers back to $40.

At the August 14, 2009, Commission meeting, the Recreational Gaming Association will be requesting to increase the maximum amount of a single wager in the game of Texas Hold’em from $40 to $250. This change would only apply to house-banked card game licensees who offer nonhouse-banked cards games (i.e. poker) and meet the surveillance requirements specified in WAC 230-15-280. Class E and Class F nonhouse-banked card game licensees will continue to be limited to a maximum single wager of forty dollars. If you would like to comment on either of these proposed rule changes, feel free to send me an e-mail and I will forward to the Commissioner’s for their consideration.

You can email Susan and she will forward your comments to the commissioners. Her email can be found on the following page:

...and so begins another year long struggle that will end up with worthless/pointless rule changes (instead of what WA poker players actually want).
