Re: Washington DC poised to be first in US to legalize online poker?

isnt this a bad thing overall? Very low player pool, very few sites competing so the rake could be absurd, rakeback/rewards very bad, and it could mess up federal regulation?

I've been wondering the same thing myself. They've finished with the community meetings, and the reports were positive (I read a summary on the dc lotto website a few weeks back).

Hopefully they'll get this train moving soon.

No legal, ethical wrongdoing in D.C. Council lottery deal, inspector general concludes

Quote:
The D.C. inspector general has concluded that there is “insufficient evidence” that any D.C. Council members “acted improperly or violated standards of conduct” when they selected a new lottery vendor and voted to legalize online gambling, according to a draft report obtained by The Washington Post.

But the report raises further questions about the genesis of the online gambling provisions, finding that the District’s chief financial officer improperly added them to the lottery contract after bidding had closed.
...
Quote:
A D.C. Council panel is set to meet Jan. 26 to hear testimony on lottery issues, including whether online gambling should proceed. Willoughby is expected to testify.

Internet gambling repeal is likely to move forward [Washington Post]
A measure to repeal the District’s controversial Internet gambling plan has enough support ...

... expects the council to start work on a new piece of legislation authorizing Internet gambling ...

... the process could take the better part of a year ...

Re: Washington DC poised to be first in US to legalize online poker?

City Council just voted to repeal (le sigh)... I wasn't at the meeting, but from what I can gather from twitter, the vote was 10-2, with some of the members seeming to signal that they might support a new bill if/when it comes up.

Yes, the online poker bill in D.C. has been repealed via a 10-2 vote by the D.C. Council.

Frankly, I didn't see how online poker in D.C. would have worked anyway since the player pool would be so small.

Maybe, but it would've been important to actually see how it worked out. Any step towards more online poker is better than inertia.
