Sheldon Adelson (LV Sands Casino CEO) Opposes Online Poker
Adelson to oppose online poker legalization, deals severe blow to chances
Quote:
|
Las Vegas Sands Chairman Sheldon Adelson has decided to oppose efforts to legalize web poker, a knowledgeable source tells me, dealing what may be a death blow to congressional efforts.
|
Quote:
Adelson has informed a key senator, Arizona's Jon Kyl, as well as the American Gaming Association. Adelson has told folks that he is morally opposed to web gaming, that technology to bar minors is untested and that he believes it will be an "unnecessary distraction" in 2012, the source told me. Adelson had been lobbied by many folks on Las Vegas Boulevard South, including, I'd guess, his new best friend, Steve Wynn.
Hard to see how it gets out of the House now.

We need to do something about this everyone. How can a casino CEO "morally oppose" online poker? This is pathetic.

* Large Republican donor and Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson is now on board with such a federal move, Gross said. Adelson, he said, sees the move as a window of opportunity to grow sales. Adelson is close to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who will be important for gambling advocates to win over. Adelson did not return calls for comment.

If true this seems to suggest Adelson is flip-flopping according to this source from August.

The date on that NY Post article is August of this year, FYI.
I wonder why he changed his mind. Couldn't find a good poker site to buy? Was hoping to buy Bodog, but then Bodog went insane?

Re: Sheldon Adelson (LV Sands Casino CEO) Opposes Online Poker
A casino CEO "morally opposed" to online gambling. No hypocrisy there at all.
What an arrogant assertion by the author that this will be the "death blow" to regulation efforts. As if Ceasars, MGM, and the people do not matter.
This makes me sick.

This seems like a bunch of unconfirmed hooey. Remember that last year the LVS misquoted Reid several times during that #Reidbill debacle.
If it is true, though, then the only thing that I have to say about Adelson is "**** him."

I hope that players will boycott the Venetian if all of this is in fact true. When more confirmation of this is out I think we should get started on organizing some sort of response. Starting in NVG.

Duh, me. I wrote this because I didn't see the date in your posts, guys. Sluggger5x had the date right there, of course. Please pardon my bad brain.

He was sitting directly next to Steve Wynn at a Republican presidential debate in late October which was kind of strange. Although recent articles say they seem to have buried the hatchet and ended their feud. Adelson is the eighth richest man in America so I'm sure he has plenty of political sway and obviously plenty of corporate power.
