Nice post, should be a sticky. I've seen a lot of great momentum on FB walls around this topic - both praising those on our side and putting pressure on those who are in the way. Wouldn't be surprised at all if this became a key tool in the fight. Politicians are generally well insulated from public backlash, but haven't been able to hide on Facebook - and it's clear that they are actively involved with these pages and don't like being embarrassed.

Most players recognize we haven't done a great job pressing these issues or being involved, getting active on FB pages is the least we can do.

Would if I could, I no longer have the edit option for that post. I did the best I could with the list as I had to look each one up individually. You would have thought that the PPA would have had a list like this up on their site. Hopefully they will now though.

I believe that a facebook campaign is the best tool we have. If everyone would take a few states a day to comment and like every poker comment they come across, I believe we could make poker into an issue that is taken more serious.

How about something liike this:

I am a responsible voting online poker player. Poker is a game of skill and I want to have the right to play online poker in a regulated US enviroment. Please consider supporting my rights to play online poker. This could also result in much needed revenue for our government.

Spencer Bachus recently told the Washington Post that he had little sympathy for the players who may have lost their bank rolls as a result of Black Friday. “When you’re dealing with a criminal enterprise, you should not be surprised when you are cheated or taken advantage of.”

Wow...You know what to do.

We should start faxing them random poker stuff/facts/nood pics. No one does that, we should do that. Pro players with familys, send them pics of your family, and tell him ask him if he feels sorry for your family if he doesnt feel sorry for you.

INTERNET GAMBLING PDF Print

On October 13, 2006, President Bush signed legislation enacting the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). This law prohibits the use of any bank instrument - such as a credit card, check, or electronic funds transfer - from being used for illegal online gambling. As an author of the law, I was proud that Congress and the President agreed to take this important enforcement step to help curb what has always been an illegal activity.

My concern has always been for our youth and families. The very real victims of illegal Internet gambling are our young people. They can't go in a casino and bet legally but the Internet has brought the casino to the computers in their bedrooms and dorm rooms. It's a temptation that many have fallen prey to and studies have shown that the earlier one begins gambling, the more likely it is he or she will become a compulsive problem gambler.

Strong support for the law has come from state attorneys general, the American Psychiatritc Association, numerous faith-based organizations, major professional sports organizations, and the NCAA among other groups.

OMG. Might as well have said, "It has always been illegal right after I made it illegal, uh, whenever I make something illegal the next day history changes and it would have always been illegal."

This is just my opinion, but,

Bachus has his own secret and hidden motives. He is lying, he is not concerned with families or young people. The facts are against him. Logic or reason is not a driving force behind prohibiting online poker for everyone if half of a percent of people who gamble have gambling problems. Bachus is claiming the end of the world if his needs are not met. The paranoid, bigoted, frightening fantasy world he has going on in his head he is creating in the real world. Online poker is not a criminal enterprise. That is laughable. He is deranged. He is a selfish sadistic authoritarian liar.

Also notice that Spencer Bachus is responsible for taking your money away. He is psychologically projecting. He is the true criminal by his own admission.

An edited version would look like this, “When you’re dealing with a me [Spencer Bachus], you should not be surprised when you are cheated or taken advantage of.”

You really need to stop coupling the "weed" and "poker" arguments. Aside from the legality arguments being somewhat similar, they are in no way related to one another, and being associated with marijuana smokers can't possibly help us.

I don't care if somebody smokes weed in their own home, but grouping poker and weed together is not going to produce anything positive.

No. I, and no one else needs to do anything for you. If your bigotted against marijuana smokers you need to look in the mirror instead of pointing your finger. Are marijuana smokers like blacks to you in your mind? Bigotry is Bigotry. And it's false to say they are in no way related to another.

There shouldn't be any shame in mentioning marijuana next to online poker. Both are completely harmless in themselves. It is up to the user that determines if they really effect someones life. I just meant both things should be legal because they are forms of entertainment for people and it is a freedom of choice thing.

The similarities don't end there. With marijuana, as with online poker, only about 5% of users actually make any money.
