GOP trying to use Jack Abramoff to kill online gambling

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...041404941.html

Cliffs: GOP using their own disgraced lobbyist to kill Democratic efforts to get online gambling regulated. Republicans planning to make statements from the floor of the House against regulation efforts.

Stupid, yes, but the GOP will likely take over the House next year. We need a true conservative political party. Which is why I don't think that the US Congress will ever pass legislation licensing online gambling.

From someone who in the past would have probably been considered a republican, I really f'n hate them now. I was obviously completely misguided in my support when I was younger.

Statements like "our children and families need this protection" from Bachus tilt me so hard. Yeah bachus, leaving the industry unregulated and in the shadows is really protecting children and families!! Guy is dense. And second, quit trying to protect me against what in your opinion you think is wrong!!!!!!

Democrats have a 257-178 advantage, I can't imagine they are gonna lose the House.

if this turns into a gop vs dems thing again then you can say it will pass if every dem voted for it. But it won't turn out that way because fringe supporters like ron paul will still vote against party.

Maybe, maybe not. But does it really matter that much. Right now we are in a perfect storm for regulatory creation, and, yet, we are not one single solitary microspec closer to our goal. That perfect storm will pass soon, dems will lose seats and the economy will be better.

In 1994 Democrats held a 258-176 advantage.

Re: GOP trying to use Jack Abramoff to kill online gambling

Is the platform solely based on FoF type mindset? I just don't understand it, conservatism dating back to the wild western days always accepted gambling. No one tells you how to spend your own hard earned money has been a hallmark of conservatism as I understood it. How did that disappear so drastically?

As someone stated above in my political development as a person I always thought of myself as a Republican, while I understand the same injustices are done on the other side, these actions regarding gambling have done nothing short of turn me completely off from the Republican agenda.

IMO if the economy shows solid strength by mid to late summer it will blunt expected dem losses in the fall.

Yes.

I moved the off-topic stuff to its own thread, at http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/15...ng-more-762102.

Not if President Obama keeps telling protesters that they ought to be thanking him.

Perhaps they should, perhaps they should not, but it's never politically wise for a politician to talk down to his constituents. If this tin ear toward the nation's heartland continues, it could be nasty for his party this November.
