Well, I define gambling as risking personal bankruptcy to gain personal success. Personal success isn't really that big of a deal with communists, amirite?

you obv define gambling in wider terms.

FOF should leave us alone, they are getting crushed on the gay marriage front. I am sure if they had to choose one or the other, poker is the lesser of two evils (I am not against gay marriage)

I do know that is not your intentions. I do understand that you are only making these posts because you believe your are right. But don't you care that you are being destructine?
My bad.

Successful debaters and politicians may be very intelligent and well acquainted with the facts but if they are successful, they know that cogent arguments and the correct facts do not win debates and political campaigns. Think "It's the economy, stupid" or swift boating. These won campaigns, not facts and good reasoning.

In our fight to officially sanction iPoker in the USA (e.g. pass the Barton bill, which the FoF no doubt opposes), we are essentially running a political campaign. We need to use the tried and tested tools of politics.

I would have been doing a better job of practicing what I preached if I had avoided potential emotional sore spots.

I have noticed that Hill rarely posts the comments about his blog posts and I am sure it isn't like he doesn't get any. Guess he can't take the heat.

Re: Focus on the Family taunts poker players

He commented something about having received hundreds of replies and that many of them were insulting or rude (I find it hard to believe that more than 5% of them were nasty or rude). It looks like he cherry-picked the ones that he felt he could address, summarized the common points from some others, and ignored the rest. How convenient.

I guess it's not shocking that Mr. Hills has this completely backwards. He may be partially correct when talking about one given hand, but ultimately (his choice of words) the "flip of a card or chance" must still succumb to "math skills".

I am not talking about one blog entry in particular. He seems to rarely post any of the comments he receives on anything.

Guess he can't stand to see in print, the multitude of posts that show he is wrong.

I think Hills should HU4ROLLZ with Jungleman ... play chips of course. It's the only way to settle the skill / luck debate.

Hill is at it again. In a recent blog, he talks about in all fairness he should have compared poker to another game.

In all fairness, he doesn't even know the meaning of the word fairness.

Re: Focus on the Family taunts poker players

“I’m-the-best-and-nobody-ever-beats-me” poker aficionados recently commented on a couple of my blog posts (Poker Joker; Don’t Cry). Apparently, they were “deeply hurt and offended” that I compared the “chance” element of poker to flipping a penny. Indeed, I oversimplified the comparison, frankly to illustrate the inevitable existence of chance in poker."

This guy is just goading us to get angry now IMO. I didn't see a place to comment on that post either..... Apparently this guy knows everything, hes an expert on gambling laws, and on the elements of skill and chance in poker. I'd just like to humbly inform his readership that while hes entitled to his opinions, there are actual experts in the fields that he is commenting on, people who have real education and experience. He should stick to what he knows, instead of giving us his legal interpretations on this matter.

Doesn't seem particularly cohesive or persuasive. Really could have used one of his drawings.

he says
Quote:
The outlandish and bizarre poker lobby is touting the Freakonomics economist, who believes that poker champions are “skilled” (and frequently win) while losers are not so “skilled” (and frequently lose). Thus, poker is a game of “skill” the Freakonomist concludes.

Personally, I have to do some mental gymnastics to arrive at the same conclusion.
Yes, clearly Hills have a much better grasp on the mathematics of probability and statistics that form the foundation of measuring the proportion of skill vs luck in a game that has both than an award winning economist. Can you get more ignorant?

No doubt Hills has a PhD in common sense which trumps a PhD in economics when we are talking about phenomena governed by probability and statistics.

Is it possible to be more wrong?

Notice that he doesn't have the comments section enabled on this post. Gee, I wonder why.

Well, come on guys, he believes there is a magical man in the sky who controls everything (yet is somehow not responsible for war, famine, rape or any other horrors of life). Poker is clearly beyond his understanding.
