The sickest part of the Canadian situation is that EVERY OTHER COUNTRY that they withhold taxes from, the rate is only 25%. Special deal for Canadians, they withhold 30%... Sierra Leoneons pay 25%, Chinese pay 25% etc...

Tip from the top: If you win a big score, it may be advisable not to claim your prize until you establish residence in a European tax treaty country where you owe $0. They will hold for you indefinitely, and the USA won't get their cut. Takes some effort though.

The worst part about at least Harrahs, is they were not forthcoming or helpful as to the new absurd Canadian rules in 2007, they only wanted their tip, they didn't have a knowledgeable English speaking person on hand.
