Exclusive - Full Tilt Poker/GBT Lawyer

Quote:
Online gaming in the US is inevitable, either at the state or federal level. Nevada is the first state, but will not be the last, to legalize and regulate online gaming. The only question is whether 2012 will see the first steps by states into the market or whether the federal government will enact legislation that provides an overall framework for online gaming in the country.

^^ where is the part where he says "and we are looking to partner with a US operator as soon as that happens"?

GBT should certainly be coming back partnering with casino IF they can close the deal. They're fighting hard to get FTP as cheaply as possible. I really hope legislation is passed as it would increase the incentive for GBT to buy asap

This article was up for about 15 minutes and then mysteriously went offline. Not sure why:

Failing to consult with stakeholders on Internet gaming is an unacceptable gamble

Very interesting timing here. Bono Mack and Akaka both come out for the Tribal interests together here on fed. legislation. Might it be responding to something? Maybe..maybe not.

Hopefully it's being edited:

Various sources in the gaming industry have reported over the last week that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-AZ) have agreed to this. Senator Kyl has, in the past, been a fierce opponent of all things gambling-related, so this would be quite a turnaround for him. Senator Kyl admitted late last year that his stand on online poker had “softened.”

PokerStars: Walls Of Secrecy Tumble
Quote:
The Company has been cozying up to French regulators, arguing for poker as a game of skill rather than one of chance. In doing so, winning windfalls may be taken out of a tax free category and instead considered as ordinary income as is the case for other professionals.

Will Poker Stars seek to reduce the Company’s taxes in return for great advice provided to European regulators on how to extract more from online poker, at player expense?

Nit: It tilts me when I have to read an article that can't even get the name of the company right. Harrah's Entertainment --> Caesar's Entertainment
So instead of Jack Links being an advertiser, it could be Jack Links Presents The WSOP?

Gregg Klein of Imperial Capital, a small investment bank based in Los Angeles, put an outperform on Caesars today.

Klein says online poker could generate $300 million to $400 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization a year.

The online poker market is estimated to be worth around $6 billion, and Klein thinks the World Series of Poker could command a 15% share.

I found the part on PPA to be quite inaccurate. I as disappointed that PPA was not asked to comment.

The author went on QJs earlier today to discuss the article. I went on the show right after to offer up my perspective.

The author, Wendeen Eolis, obviously wasn't pleased to hear that PokerStars personnel were directed not to talk to her, and Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Zynga Finds Online Gambling 'Very Interesting'

Quote:
In the call today with analysts, in response to a question about online gambling, Schappert said, ”I think it’s actually a very interesting opportunity, because we’re in an unique position. We have the world’s largest online poker game and the most social online poker game we’ve been running for four years. We had record results last quarter. And it’s one of the top six games on Facebook. So I think we’re in a very good position and it’s a category that’s interesting to us.”

I listened to both her and your QJ segments today and you did an exceptional job with the counterpoint, Rich. I felt that her concern about players being tricked into supporting the skill argument was especially off-base. In addition to the practical reasons you provided, she completely overlooked the fact that plenty of poker players (such as those that would rather not self-identify as "gamblers" in the traditional sense) would have better lives if our society were able to properly acknowledge that competitive poker is distinct from traditional gambling.

This issue has always been one of the most resonant with me personally. Nobody's tricking me into anything, I understand the logic behind the fact that poker as a skill game (under the socially-relevant definitions, at least), and it has more importance than being some trite legal angle. Keep up the great work Rich.
