No discussion here, on the DoJ decision last year? No discussion here, on the DoJ decision last year?

I know I've been gone for a while, but I was surprised that a quick search in PokLegi didn't turn up more discussion on the decision I missed, from the DoJ, that the Wire Act is limited to sports betting.

Where I personally stumbled across this news:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/27/tech/w...ely/index.html

http://www.gamblingandthelaw.com/blo...r-24-2011.html

"If the bettors and operator are all in the same state, and the gambling does not involve a sports event or race, the Wire Act cannot be used against the operator, even if phone wires happen to cross into another state. And if the state legislature has made the online game legal, it does not violate any other federal anti-gambling law"

----
Do the latter limitations blunt the effectiveness of the DoJ's change of heart?

There has been plenty of discussion.

The answer to your question is, no, that quote is irrelevant in large part and was not affected by the December 23 Letter. In fact the UIGEA expressly allowed such intrastate gaming and communications in 2006.

Nevada was doing telephone and internet instate sports betting long before December 23, which made the Reid-Kyl request really kind of odd for Reid .....

Thanks, all
Guess I was rusty on search.

And, given the hypocrisy of the national vs. state standards..... probably not worth beating on.
