You're right. Penn Nat'l is putting more effort into the vote this time w/ radio ads etc but the key imo is still motivating enough people to the extent necessary for them to make a special trip to vote on this single issue.

If somehow every registered voter in the county were forced to vote I think it would probably pass. What concerns me is that many of the potential "yes" votes don't care enough about the issue to make the trip to the polls, whereas the "no" voters, some being the morality police, may be more motivated.

Unfortunately there are probably more people outside of WV who care about this than live in Jeff. County.

Crossing my fingers for Dec 5.

That was a very good article to read.

I'm feeling much better now.

Let's hope that this message spreads to every single horseman.

I stopped at Charles Town Races today after a visit to Harper's Ferry.

My first time there. Thought it was nice but could use to more restaurants and bars. I noticed that on the map of the Casino, an area was marked off titled "Future Gaming"

I think they might be a little too optimistic.

Not a real informative article but buried within it is another endorsement for table gaming. It will be interesting to see if the press coverage increases following the zoning vote on November 7th.

The Jefferson County Development Authority formally announced its support for the referendum Monday as well.

This is hearsay of hearsay, but a friend of mine was at CTR&S earlier this week and had the chance to talk with a (the?) gaming manager. This person said that if the referendum is passed that they expect to get table games up and running much sooner than a poker room, with a poker room perhaps being as much as 9-12 months out. That kind of surprised me since I thought that training-wise it was easier/faster to get poker dealers and floor-persons up and running than table game dealers.

Whatever the wait, I just hope that we have something to wait for other than another two years before another referendum.

It almost makes sense, though. I'm unsure, but I think more money is made on the other games than poker. I'm hoping poker is up and running around May; I don't want to wait another 6 months beyond that. Wow, I hope what you heard isn't true.

I went back and looked at the Mountaineer and Wheeling timeline from 2+2 when the original vote took place. It looks like the poker rooms opened up 19 Oct 2007 which was a little over 4 months from the vote in June of that year.

I still think May of 2010 is as good a guess as any based off of the chat comments from Al Britton; but if CTRS places the priority on other table games, which from my limited understanding are more profitable to a casino, then the poker room may get pushed back because of economics.

I don't think we will have to wait past the summer of 2010 to see the poker room open, but that is just a gut feeling based mostly off of the fact CTRS will want to be first in the market over any potential competition in Pennsylvania. I also think that CTRS is going to find out this poker room will have the potential to be a premiere east coast poker destination based off of proximity to D.C. and its affluent suburbs.

I agree, they should want to open a poker room early because of the DC Metro area. And, it should be a big and nice room because I think they'll pull in a sizable attendance. I don't see why Al will have a project manager assigned to poker and one to regular table games and open the at the same time.

It looks like the Yes side keeps adding endorsements for the table gaming vote.

"Charles Town City Council members say that the new jobs and additional revenues that could be generated by table games in Jefferson County will benefit the community."

The Mayor also gave her own endorsement "Mayor Peggy Smith opted to offer further encouragement for the referendum's passage, and she issued her own letter of support for the games. In the document, she stated that she is in favor of table games because of their potential financial benefit for the community."

The vote is a little over three weeks away.

The Journal has officially endorsed Table Games.

Early voting has commenced.

Taking the fact that this would allow a lot of us much easier access to live poker from the NOVA area out of the equation; the referendum would provide at least 500 jobs to out of work people with an estimated 90% of those jobs filled by residents of the county. I think that fact alone, not only the increased revenue and hedging against PA table games and MD slots should make a rational resident of Jefferson County vote for the games.

Of course (IMO) the best part about this is every resident gets their own say in it in the form of a vote. At the very least I urge all eligible Jefferson County voters to cast a ballot even if they don’t want table games.

Hope they get it. I'd enjoy playing when I come home for the holiday season (probably 2010+ I'm guessing) to Frederick, MD. Used to love going there when I was younger, running up some winnings and blowing it at the Huddle Club or Horseshoe, haha.

Here is an article about the early voting that is ongoing. The speculation is that the vote yes side needs a heavy turnout for this thing to pass.

"More than 1,300 people have already voted on whether to let the Charles Town Races & Slots put table games in its casino."

Hopefully this pace keeps up and people show up in force on the 5th.

I had business in Charles Town last Friday. There were "vote yes on Dec 5" signs all through town w/o a single no sign. After I finished meeting with my customer I asked him in passing how he felt about the vote. He stated he was very much in support as were many others. He stated that the increase in information available to the public has dramatically increasd since the last vote. He also stated in his opinion the vote should pass due in part to the current state of the economy and the increase in jobs that the passing would provide. Coupled with the increase in revenue it would provide to the area he felt very strongly that it will pass. I am still concerned though, my fingers are crossed.

Thanks for posting! I was out there as well and I saw more YES signs than NO signs myself. I went to the casino asking questions to get a feel for things, but everyone can't say for sure; they're all hopefull, but unsure.

One thing I noticed that will be an issue for me at the poker tables if they come, is that they allow smoking in the casino. Ugh! Nasty, smelly, smoke.

Anyway, ONE TIME!

Poker rooms are, for the most part, smoke free in the USA. I have no reason to think Charles Town would be any different.

Yeah even casinos that allow smoking usually have no smoking in the poker room.

C'mon, guys, are you serious? We're talking bout West Virginia now. :-) That casino just reeks of smoke! Everywhere you go.

I'll take your word on it, however.

Anyway, 11 days to Dec 5! One time!

Not sure what this article says that is negative.
