Online Poker Should Be Dealt a Fresh Hand With Regulation: View

Quote:
To maximize the benefits of Internet gambling, and reduce its many dangers, federal legalization and regulation is the best option.
Quote:
U.S. players have been abandoning Internet gambling ever since. The number of online U.S. poker accounts has declined from 2.03 million to about 490,000, according to a report prepared for Bloomberg View by H2 Gambling Capital. (It’s expected to drop further as accounts expire at the end of the year.) And the U.S. share of the global market has declined from 49 percent in 2006 to a paltry 7 percent today.
Quote:
Senator Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat of West Virginia, has saidthat regulating and taxing online gambling would yield budget savings of $41.8 billion over 10 years for the federal government, and $30 billion for states.

At least Reid has some involvement in the committee albeit with poker "way back in his head."

Quote:
Top aides to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) have been in frequent contact with each other and committee members about the secretive discussions.
Reid is getting “more involved” with the supercommittee talks, aides say, but he hasn’t fully engaged yet as the supercommittee moves into the final rounds of talks. Reid is also chatting with Boehner.

How do we see the comments? How do we post comments? And most importantly, how do we change the font so we can read the article? On my screen it is in very tiny print.

AFAIK no comments on the article yet. (At least that I can see) Is the font really not visible on your comp? Don't know what to suggest on that besides copy-pasting in to word or something.

Fertitta Interactive acquires online gaming software provider

Quote:
Fertitta Interactive, an Internet gaming start-up which is part-owned by Station Casinos' Fertitta brothers, has acquired a California-based online gaming software provider.
I believe back before BF they had an agreement with Full Tilt. Looks like their still gearing up for US poker.

You have to register with the site to view the article (it's free). I think the web programming is messed up because I got the same cookie problem even though I have cookies enabled. I refreshed the page to get to the registration form (I think).

The article really focuses on the potential effects of Internet Gaming bills on Native American tribes. It lists six amendments that were suggested to NIGA to lobby for to include in any federal iPoker bill. These suggestions were clearly incorporated into the testimony of Ernest Stevens in the recent House hearing.

The rest of the article is just a rehash of stuff everyone knows.

It also would unfortunately end the operations of one of the stalwarts of the online poker industry.

Another Calvin Ayre article out that talks about AGA and their thoughts on legislation especially in light of the recent hearing. They also apparently paraphrased Fahrenkopf as supporting "state licensing and regulation following federal guidelines on internet poker as it is 'substantially different than other forms of gaming' and is hoping to get the federal bill passed by early 2013."

Makes your hair stand the way the article is written. At first I was excited about the good exposure, but by the end was pissed at all this misleading info about the lotteries etc.

Yea I haven't seen a specific quote from Trump regarding the BArton bill. I'm wondering if these article writers are speculating that he's behind it. I think he's just behind ipoker in general and not a specific bill yet.

I can't imagine trump would waste money lobbying for the industry to open when he doesn't even have a plan except to plaster his brand name on the highest bidder's discount software.
