Re: Why Can't Pokerstars Re-Enter the US Market Containment Thread
One thing is certain - money buys a lot of influence in the US. And Pokerstars is a money making monster.
(side light - much as i hate merge, and all the other ****ty software, i don't care about the software- i want the sunday milly, the 55r, the nightly 100k)
Im amazed it has taken this long... surely they just need to 'mea culpa' negotiated paying some fine over time, agree to additional provisions stopping tax evasion and minors, and money laundering scams. boom they are back.
however, if that won't work, then Caesars or someone will by 51% or something and open a JV here that is another skin for stars - caesarstars?
that should be trivial... if i were wynn or caesars - why would i go thorugh the headache of trying to win a customer base when i can buy a piece of the best in the business
it is a super win win - PS gets to operate in the US (as caesarstars) and caesars becomes number 1 in online poker worldwide... poof
no brainer..

Except Caesars has partnered with 888? I believe.
I want Stars too, in fact, I was on watching the Sunday Mill last night, and I played (for play money of course, since I'm in the US) Zoom poker just to check it (it's very nice) so I REALLY want them.
But, no way the casino's are EVER letting this happen. They will spend a LOT of money (and have) to make sure that doesn't happen.

They spent a lot of money getting rid of their serious comps. In the end this is what this was all about. Money for the "suits"

Re: Why Can't Pokerstars Re-Enter the US Market Containment Thread
Without a time frame he isn't exactly going out on a limb, even the most protective/punitive legislative proposals have included some type of discretionary opening 2-5 years after implementation in which sites that operated in the U.S. post UIGEA might be given licensing consideration.
It's even possible that the 'race to the bottom' concern, which the lobbyists for federal legislation use for fear mongering could occur, where some state simply whores itself out by offering licensing with limited regulation or restrictions.
They'll likely get a settlement with SDNY without agreeing to permanent exclusion, so while I doubt we'll see Stars in the US during the the front half of the decade, they'll almost certainly be back someday, and possibly (albeit remotely) sooner rather than later.

Re: Why Can't Pokerstars Re-Enter the US Market Containment Thread
I'm not sure Stars would be relevant if other international operators are in first. It's hard to run down a market leader, especially if fish show brand loyalty like the Party days. Being on the outside, even six months, could be fatal.

the big guys reckoned 15 months last last december, but with this doj tarnishing, coupled with the increasing frequency of technological and cultural paradigm shifts, i say your 6 months figure is right on the cutting edge, great job!

Re: Why Can't Pokerstars Re-Enter the US Market Containment Thread
Even if they out 6 months from the start, I would have the up most confidence they would take majority of the market share in probably less then a yr of operation; PS is very well run effective company and their competition is a joke and I doubt any casino will be able to match the high quality service PS provides (customer service, software, games...)

Reason: i find PS is even more eff when they real competition

^^^ All irrelevant.
PS defied the US. They never get a license, even as a provider.

Re: Why Can't Pokerstars Re-Enter the US Market Containment Thread
pretty sure, whenever its legal and regulated stars will work out some sort of deal with DOJ and then USA can play again :-) need ftp to come thru 1st tho, i think the whole process will take another 8 months.

Don't count out Party, or a new Titan. I am still amazed how many casuals still remember party, and haven't deposited since. Stars is a user brand only for more committed players. I sincerely doubt it's downmarket appeal, without a large lead in customer base.
