Done!

It really doesn't take that much time or effort to do these things. It's something we can all do in as little as 10 minutes per day.

I think this is a really good idea. I was actually motivated to go to the site, but then I saw it was Bachus'. I want to write him an angry letter but I don't think he has developed a higher level emotional or reasoning to understand.

After all, this lizard thing has criminalized online poker himself and then tells the media, well that's what you get poker players for dealing with a criminal organization.

Okay, I did it. I just asked nicely for HR 1174. I refrained from adding "Because I want my freedom back from you, you freedom hating Nazi!"

Did the stuff for today (and previous days). These daily tasks are an awesome idea, and easy to do. Let's keep this up. Thanks TE.

Will the Financial Services committee take calls from non-constituents? Just thinking of when I tried to contact Barney Frank in the past and was told he only takes calls and emails from his district. Or is that tailored towards those with Congressional reps on the committee?

I believe they'll take your call. I know they'll take the email, as I just sent mine and my rep isn't on the committee.

My email:

Dear Honorable Committee Members,

As a poker player, American, and voter, I am writing to you today to ask for a hearing on H.R. 1174 -- the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act. I believe this important legislation will help protect my rights as a consumer and a poker player.

Additionally, I'd like to express my frustration and disappointment with the Department of Justice's recent actions regarding the online poker industry. Rather than protecting U.S. consumers, those actions have instead dramatically harmed us.

These recent events serve as a terrible reminder of the immediate need to license and regulate online poker in the United States. Please support H.R. 1174 to protect my rights as a consumer and a poker player.

I hope that I, along with my over one million fellow Poker Players Alliance members, can count on your support.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Rich Muny

Today's plan:
  • Call the House Financial Services Committee to request a hearing on HR 1174. Their numbers are 202-225-4247 (GOP) and 202-225-7502 (Dem). Full committee contact info is here.
  • If you didn't yesterday, please email the House Financial Services Committee to request a hearing on HR 1174 (here).
  • Visit www.theppa.org/takeaction and finish that up
  • Join the Skype Poker Advocacy Group by PMing me with your username.
  • Prepare for tomorrow's action plan: Those not able to attend the May 24th D.C. Fly-In can participate locally. Simply schedule an appointment with your senator or Congressman at the district office nearest your home for (or around) May 24th. You'll probably be able to set this up so you can attend before or after work or during lunch. Tomorrow's action plan is to make the appointment.
Thanks!

I think we should ask our representatives, and the district attorney for the Southern District Of New York, what they are going to do about these guys.

These companies seem to be the real bad guys.

If Congress does not do something about them, it would resonate more with voters in general than campaigning against someone because they don't support online poker.

And if the SDONY does not prosecute or lets them off easier than the online sites, it would give a hook to letters of comment.

The guy at the Dem number insta-transferred me to the GOP number because he said they have no say in the schedule. So in the future we may only want to call the majority number.

    • Mention that you are proud to live in a country where we the right to petition government for redress of grievances is protected by the First Amendment.
    • Lots of posts on the issue of poker and lots of "liking" of pro-poker comments will help this effort as well.
Thanks!

Renewing my previous suggestion with the modification suggested by another poster. It is probably getting hard for the casual reader to find the current action plan.

I update the OP with each new plan. Just click the thread and its right there.

I updated the thread title in hopes that will clarify it better. Thanks.

I would put "Wednesday May 18th, 2011 Plan" instead of "Todays plan." I opened this thread, looked at OP date and saw "Todays plan" and instantly clicked to the last page of this thread... Not many people will really notice that you edited the post today (even though the edit message at the bottom says the date edited)...

Just a suggestion based on the fact that I still thought the OP was old. Maybe im ******ed because the thread title does say May 18th.

I'm surprised to read that it's this hard to find the plan. I wish to ensure everyone can find the plan, so I made a sticky.
