Yes, you are correct it certainly dropped the ball on that one but really what choice was there with 200 million mouths to feed and exponential growth ?

Every nation in the world has screwed this up. imho

At least I still have a choice and if I pony up the extra $ I can eat healthy.

dont you feel that insulating the American sites from foreign competition and requiring state licensing will in fact limit the competitive nature of the industry?

The best thing would be for Harrah's to become a big name in the world of online poker then maybe those donkeys in Washington DC will start to see things differently.

But even if that happens, that looks years away...

The point is that politicians look bent on periodically recreating 1930s style protectionism (the more global economic crisis we create the less we learn!). Hell even at the best of times they wanna protect! It's in their blood. Maybe it's natural, they have a constituency and they seem to care very little about anyone beyond.

It seems the global growth of any markets only gets encouraged when everyone gets a share of the pie, governments, corporations. If not, you see trade barriers being erected and the strict protection of the national interest which is one dangerous step towards fascism. When markets become multi-polar with interests spread out, politicians keep their mouths shut and stop ruining everything! They become scared of the hand that feeds them!! Maybe that's a good thing.

So the ideal long term solution would be for a major US player to succesfully enter the market and by so doing, cement the place of online poker in the american economic landscape.

Which state does not currently say gambling businesses are illegal if unlicensed?

Is there room there for another free enterprise entry? Probably lots of dealing already, but count me in for investment monies, if we're not too slow! If it's secret, which makes sense or I probably would have heard, I assure you the info is safe with me.

None do. That's why there are no on-line poker sites based in the the US.

I do not think that will happen at all and the author of this thread is doing nothing but scare mongering.

If Americans invest aboard their money is not secured by the government as it is with the FDIC and I think the same thing will happen if legislation is passed that legalizes and regulates poker.

It will keep the money in the country and it will eliminate risk and maximize competition which will ultimately be a huge benefit to us as players.

I never worked for Wall St.

Wall St. worked for me

And in fact I can't open an account with a US broker by law but it never once hindered me.

Now let's get to the facts.

If only American companies are covered under legislation and regulation it will create more domestic jobs, generate a boat load of tax income and it will be open to players abroad that will all flock to the US companies because they can be TRUSTED.

The US dollar is the world base currency for a very good reason..... think about it !

Pity? Why? I just got back from DC and I can tell you that ZERO congressmen told me of their desire to keep government away from online poker. Check out my latest article at http://poker.townhall.com (Digg: http://digg.com/political_opinion/To...ternet_Freedom ) for more. I know of only one congressmen who supports deregulation -- Ron Paul.

IMO it would be hard to ask others to fight a battle on general principle alone that we'd be certain to lose.
