Re: Fight for Poker Rights: Weekend of May 14th
Just curious, is media attention bad for poker? We seem to focus our letters to legislatures and government officials but never to news media outlets.
Clearly Bachus doesn't give a **** about online gambling, and writing letters and spamming his facebook isn't changing his opposition. With the right wing propaganda machine - Beck, O'reilly, Hannity, etc - suddenly praising libertarian ideals of constitutional rights and limited government, wouldn't they love the narrative of liberal big brother stripping our freedom to play poker and pocketing money from American citizens? Perhaps the media is a more effective channel through which to pressure Bachus.

Re: Fight for Poker Rights: Weekend of May 14th
This comes from senator bachus wikipedia page.....Look at the nice words they use for him..
Stock tradingIn 2007, Bachus made trades with a number of short term stock options, betting that stocks would rise or fall for a quick profit or loss. Bachus made up to $160,000, including a bet in March that the stock market would drop that earned him between $15,000 and $50,000. Most members of Congress hold some stocks or mutual funds, but Bachus' rapid-fire trades are unusual for a leading member of Congress, particularly one with the key role of ranking member of the House Committee on Financial Services.[10]
looks like stock trading is his crack cocaine............. I wish wikipedia used gambling instead of betting !

Fox "news" might actually be an ally here, strange as that might sound. They could very well continue their narrative of attacking anything and everything Obama does by spinning black friday as the Obama administration launching a socialist/marxist attack on America's right to play a legal game.
Combine this with a star tea bagger introducing AGA's bill, and we might even have the hoard of bumbling tea party douche-****s on our side.

Sums up my thoughts exactly, in much more eloquent words. I think massive "email-bomb" campaigns to nationally televised media outlets could be quite effective. Especially to fox news, in this case. As much as I despise them, they are damn good at what they do.

I like it. I think I saw a thread earlier with updated media contact info. Can someone post that here?

Done!
It really doesn't take that much time or effort to do these things. It's something we can all do in as little as 10 minutes per day.

Re: Fight for Poker Rights: Monday, May 16th
I think this is a really good idea. I was actually motivated to go to the site, but then I saw it was Bachus'. I want to write him an angry letter but I don't think he has developed a higher level emotional or reasoning to understand.
After all, this lizard thing has criminalized online poker himself and then tells the media, well that's what you get poker players for dealing with a criminal organization.

Okay, I did it. I just asked nicely for HR 1174. I refrained from adding "Because I want my freedom back from you, you freedom hating Nazi!"

Did the stuff for today (and previous days). These daily tasks are an awesome idea, and easy to do. Let's keep this up. Thanks TE.

Re: Fight for Poker Rights: Monday, May 16th
Will the Financial Services committee take calls from non-constituents? Just thinking of when I tried to contact Barney Frank in the past and was told he only takes calls and emails from his district. Or is that tailored towards those with Congressional reps on the committee?

I believe they'll take your call. I know they'll take the email, as I just sent mine and my rep isn't on the committee.

Re: Fight for Poker Rights: Monday, May 16th
My email:
Dear Honorable Committee Members,
As a poker player, American, and voter, I am writing to you today to ask for a hearing on H.R. 1174 -- the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act. I believe this important legislation will help protect my rights as a consumer and a poker player.
Additionally, I'd like to express my frustration and disappointment with the Department of Justice's recent actions regarding the online poker industry. Rather than protecting U.S. consumers, those actions have instead dramatically harmed us.
These recent events serve as a terrible reminder of the immediate need to license and regulate online poker in the United States. Please support H.R. 1174 to protect my rights as a consumer and a poker player.
I hope that I, along with my over one million fellow Poker Players Alliance members, can count on your support.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Rich Muny
