Re: State legislation watch thread

Has anyone heard of anything on the Minnesota side? I'm suprised there hasn't been a murmur about possibly legalizing online poker as a way of helping pay for the new vikings stadium.

There is almost no chance at all imo, but not because of the governor. The recent initiative just to put B&M casino gambling on the ballot was shot down on the floor (I think a 21-16 vote). This happened despite polls showing that 80+% of Kentuckians want to vote on the issue. Big racing industry was also heavily in favor. I can't imagine a vote on ipoker would fare any better.

Maryland is apparently looking at ILottery. From a Louisiana lottery person:

Let's not put too much weight in what is published by the NY Post.

They haven't been right about anything yet.

Because they think electronic pull tabs are a better idea. I'm not joking.

Nevada ...

Nevada has legalized online poker.

Does this mean that approved sites can only offer poker services to players in Nevada or does it mean that players in Nevada will be able to play with players from other locations that are customers of the approved site.

For example if a casino here in Nevada partners with a Party/Stars will the players in Nevada be able to play with the whole Party/Stars network or will Party/Stars have to create a network just for players from Nevada?

thanks

jack

A NV casino can partner with an outside platform provider, but that provider must be licensed as well. Stars won't be able to get a license with the legal stuff going on now, and they may never be able to get one. But many of the off shore sites, including Party, have already partnered up with many of the potential operators in NV.

However, using the platform provided by the off shore site does not mean player pools will be merged together. For the time being, it appears they have to be separate. This means that only people in NV will be able to play, and only with each other.

This is probably a temporary situation.
