The interest of lotteries in general and Illinois specifically in offering online poker has been apparent for a lot longer than 1 hour. The "news" is pretty big, you knew of the thread already.

Given the specific proposed legislation in Illinois, including the express provision for public input on a host of "player" interests, I thought the PPA might have something substantive to say about how the it welcomed the proposal in Illinois, applauded its reaching out to other markets, recognized its potential for a Lottery/private partnership, and was going to become active on behalf of poker players in the process afforded by the proposed Act, et cetera. ....

If poker emerges online because of some States or lotteries acting to legislate/regulate it, the PPA owes it to its "mission" to step up and represent player interests, even if some personal preference might be to deal with less "socialist" gaming operations.....

..... or not.

DQ,

I don't know about all that. I do think this is of value to us in that anti-gaming lawmakers may see that they will need to take action if they don't wish for states to socialize this sector of the economy via state run monopolies (the partnerships you mention do not imply private competition...they imply the exact opposite, actually). Any efforts those lawmakers take will have to take the concerns of the poker community into account -- assuming they wish for their bill to pass.

There hasn't been anything publicly released, but my guess is they are looking very closely at IPoker. The Oregon Racing Commision already licenses legal online horse racing in 30 states(6/7 most populated states). The Oregon lottery also tried to go online in the past year with a kind of rewards program.

Definitely sounds like a positive thing. I have been trying to catch up on everything going on, but having not been on the forums for a few months and not following the latest poker news, I fell way behind. Sounds like Oregon and California are both better than Washington right now though

It's a formality, but let's let the governor sign it first.

True that, TE. But the only way that Markell won't sign the bill is if he drops dead before it hits his desk.

It was one of the 19 states rumored to be working on something. That number was cut down to 16, so KY might have dropped the issue for now.
