Spadaro Comment Re: Ivey

"Bryan Spadaro, PPA:

bspadaro01 Bryan Spadaro
Never lost more respect for a person from a Facebook post than what Phil Ivey did today. Nice way to see short term and backstab. #jumpship"

Is this real? If so, I think this deserves an explanation. Not sure what to think about this.

Big explaining needs to be done. FTP owes me money. Ivey deserves praise for standing up for us.

Spadaro's comment is ridiculous. I've supported the PPA against the haters, but if they don't sever all ties with this idiot, then I've lost all faith in them.

Bryan was not speaking for the organization. PPA is united in its demands that FTP repay the players.

He speaks for the PPA regardless. WTF was he thinking? This all seems very bad.

This would kind of be like the president coming out and saying an extremely racist remark. Ya he might not have meant to speak for the entire United States, but in reality he does.

Also does he have some insider information that the public might not be aware of? If he doesn't I don't really understand why he would make that statement and bash Phil Ivey who I would think has more information about the situation than him.

[x]Glad someone I respect is taking a stand for something finally

PPA jump on this. You are the Poker Players Alliance not the Poker Sites Alliance. And flush this guy please, he's an idiot.

While I'm glad he came out and said what he did, he did it for himself. He's not showing up at the WSOP because he doesn't want to get heckled, he can say whatever he wants, but that's the reason, he doesn't want to deal with random people saying stuff to him.

Sure it's not his fault about the money, but people see him as a representative of the company and right now he's just trying to distance himself for himself, not because he cares about us. And of course helping his own image.

.... all in my opinion, of course.

edit: PPA needs to come out with a statement if they don't support Bryan Spadaro's thought.

Re: Spadaro Comment Re: Ivey

I can say with ease that what Bryan said over Twitter in no way represents the opinions of the PPA. Clearly his statement was an emotional outburst that should never have been shared on such a public forum. I am embarrassed by it and he is too. It is not possible to reverse what was already said, but again, let me be clear his twitter post in NO WAY reflects the thoughts of the PPA or its top leaders.

Re: Spadaro Comment Re: Ivey

John, I believe you and I continue to believe the PPA has the player's best interests at heart.
Unfortunately, the poker community as a whole isn't going to find it credible. The PPA is going to own that statement as long as Bryan is employed. The organization had FT partner BOD membership until very recently and was funded by FT until very recently. The PPA has also been identified in the media repeatedly as an organization representing the interests of offshore poker sites.

That statement caused a lot of damage to the PPA as a meaningful faction of players now think the organization is a bunch of FT shills.

I don't see how Bryan is going to remain effective as membership director going forward.

I also hope the organization takes this as a learning experience in regard to communications. The reality is, when a known PPA or Board member makes a public statement on something like this, they are speaking for the PPA. They may not think they are and they may think they are offering a personal opinion, but that's not realistic.

Im not sure what the Ivey statement means, ZBTHorton makes some really good points in that massive NVG thread. I know that Bryan's statement was bad for the organization no matter how this turns out.

Re: Spadaro Comment Re: Ivey

At a very minimum, how about an explanation from Bryan of his reasoning behind his statement. If we could understand his point of view, even if an "emotional outburst", maybe it wouldn't seem so bad.

Edit: Just found this explanation by Bryan:

Re: Spadaro Comment Re: Ivey

It seems recently the poker players are losing faith in the PPA for good reason and out of pure ignorance but it is bad for all of us. Statements like this need to be dealt with swiftly and appropriatly as he "IS" representing the PPA with his statements. I am not sure that a statement "that he doesn't represent the PPAs views" is sufficient especially since Ivy is the first person that seems to have some integrity around here.
