Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing -- 7/26 at 2:15 pm

Great news! On Thursday, July 26 at 2:15 pm, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold an oversight hearing to "examine the regulation of tribal gaming, focusing on brick and mortar to the internet."

We don’t yet have a list of witnesses. At this point, I don't know if there will be a witness representing poker players.

The announcement is at http://www.indian.senate.gov/hearing...012&thisDay=26.

UPDATE:

Here's the witness list for the 7/26 Senate Indian Affairs Committee online #poker hearing: http://www.indian.senate.gov/hearing...fde25595bfdc8b

Witness former Congressman Jon Porter is a PPA consultant, so we players will be represented. :-)

Can't be bad, but I'd rather see another one in the house. If we are to believe that Reid/Kyl are in agreement, then a Senate committee hearing doesn't matter much.

There are still some things that need to be worked out, though.

We want tribal interests on board to the maximum extent possible.

Understood

That could have an impact on the House.

I like that there is a hearing this late in session. This issue is very much alive.

In recent memory, I can't recall a "bad" hearing on poker. We've come a long way imo.

I think the hearing is a reaction to all the friction going on with the Reid/Kyl stuff right now. Tribes don't want to be forgotten and have their own concerns. Technologically, they are far behind the curve and are going to try to buy as much time as possible to catch up.

IF something passes, that is.

Do you think that means Tribes advocating for some kind of blackout/extended runway to licensing or something else? Just curious.

It will be interesting to see who is invited to testify. So far, it seems the tribes want it all. And they want it all without having to pay taxes.

Tribes are going to partner with playtech, party, etc. They want exclusivity, to be able to self regulate, and pay no taxes.

Translation:
Foreign sites regulated by sovereign nations that don't pay any taxes.

Conclusion:
Wat?

COPA also wants a big wall built around the State of California.
