Re: Why the PPA cannot possibly serve the interests of poker players

I still like you LirvA, but these continued threads and posts are beginning to bother me.

By now pretty much everyone on this forum understands your position that it is better to not accept incremental increases in freedom from the government but rather to stick to your guns and demand real freedom.

By now I hope you understand that the reason most of the rest of us disagree with you is that we see little chance of your vision of "real freedom" becoming reality within our lifetimes and so conclude (rightly) that accepting the lesser of 2 evils still at least gets us the lesser evil.

Accordingly it should be obvious that you are wasting your time arguing with us on this forum. UNTIL YOU HAVE ENOUGH FOLKS IN AGREEMENT WITH YOUR VIEWS TO CONVINCE US THAT THERE IS IN FACT A REAL CHANCE OF THAT "REAL FREEDOM" OCCURRING, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE OUR MINDS ABOUT ACCEPTING THE LESSER EVIL WITH RESPECT TO POKER - MUCH LESS CONVINCE US TO STOP FIGHTING FOR IT.

So stop all this posting here, please. Start positing on other forums, especially political forums, ESPECIALLY FORUMS WHERE MOST FOLKS SUPPORT BIG GOVERNMENT.

Once you get enough of them to change their views and thus make the libertarian alternative a real possibility, then please come back here and report your success. At that time, if it occurs, I will gladly consider changing my position on poker legislation.

I like you too Skall, and TE. I also have better feelings towards Xanadu now that I've seen his line of thinking on natural rights in the poker rights thread. I was surprised to see that he and I share similar beliefs. Pleasantly surprised.

I hope you all aren't taking what I say personally, because I don't believe at all that the PPA or any of its members intend to promote the interests of politicians, casino owners and Indians. I know the PPA and its members mean well, but somebody has to point out the problems of trying to pass federal legislation that doesn't **** over players.

These two threads are essentially the same topic (just coated with different subject titles). So, they are now merged.

And what are those 'inherent' rights that we are born with?

I know this is a bit of a semantic argument, in this thread, but I'd find it interesting to see the definitive 'proof' of what an inalienable right is...

None? Really? I hadn't realized, perhaps, that the libertarian view point distilled down this far...

but, this is probably veering too close to a political discussion- hence, the wrong forum.

Once, when she was a girl, a very little girl, Dana was in the woods. It was autumn. She had always been a tomboy, unlike her sister Melissa. For her birthday, Dana’s brothers had given her a B.B. gun and were showing her how to use it. Their father had told them only to shoot cans, but in a patch of grass, Bill Jr. found a garter snake and they began shooting. Wanting to fit in with her brothers, Dana also shot at the snake. It squirmed wildly, desperately fighting for life but as the boys continued to shoot the snake began to bleed. When she realized what she had done, Dana began to cry with irrevocable guilt. Through her tears, she was saying that... something was missing from the snake. She had taken something that was not hers to take. And although deathly afraid of snakes, Dana held the animal as if sheer human will could keep it alive. The snake, its blood on her hands, died. There was nothing she could do to bring it back.

Re: The PPA's position on "poker rights".

I had a similar experience to Dana Scully's.

When I was a kid, probably 10 or 12, I was walking in the woods behind my house with my B.B. gun. There was a squirrel on a tree about ten yards from me. I aimed and shot it right in the vitals and killed it. I then wept and regretted it, and buried the squirrel.

Why?

Think on these things.

You were on drugs, mentally unstable, or some combination of the two?

Nicely done, but I'm not sure it fully applies.
