There's something wrong with that article.
They left out a quote from someone with the opposing view.

EU Plans Illegal Online Gambling Crackdown, Rules on Legal Sites

Quote:
The European Commission, the 27-nation EU’s executive arm, will also propose measures to “effectively regulate and supervise” legal gaming sites, Barnier said. The action plan will be published “in the autumn,” he said.
Obviously I don't like the crackdown, but the future looks a little brigher for the EU poker community.

Will Adelson’s deep pockets influence the push to legalize online gaming?

"As Nevada gaming lobbyists diligently lay the groundwork for what might be a final end-of-the-year push for federal legislation legalizing online poker, perhaps the biggest wild card is a man who has vowed to spend as much as $100 million influencing this year’s election."

"Proponents of the measure think it’s possible Adelson could be won over using the same argument that apparently persuaded Kyl to drop his opposition: One, that online poker is happening now with little enforcement and no oversight; and two, that the Justice Department has opened a Pandora’s box of states that want in on the action."

At a subsequent meeting, Palmer met Minister Harold Lovell in his capacity as acting prime minister. Lovell informed the ambassador that efforts are on the way to resolve the long outstanding dispute between the two countries and arrive at a final settlement. He also echoed PM Spencer’s sentiments that it was Antigua & Barbuda’s intention to work with the US Embassy to ensure mutual benefits for both countries.

I've not read much about this, but if player pools are combined again, it would be pretty hard for this push to work out poorly for players, imo.

888 Signs Strategic US Online Poker Agreement with WMS

"...WMS will market and distribute 888's world-class online poker solution to land-based casino customers in venues in the United States, initially with a play-for-fun offering. The agreement will allow the launch of a real money offering immediately as either Federal or state based regulation is finalised and upon licensing by gaming authorities.

Earlier this year, both 888 and WMS submitted applications to Nevada's State Gaming Control Board for interactive gaming licenses in the State of Nevada..."

NY case: Staten Island gambling ring using "poker is a skill game" defense.
From today's paper NY Post:

Any larger implications if this defense succeeds or doesn't?

Vicnice found this one and shared it with me. http://www.waff.com/story/18957223/l...nline-gambling

Apparently it is legal to bet online in Alabama. Because it isn't illegal. I'm sure that will change. Haha.
