Senate Hearings at 277-78 (testimony of Herbert Miller, Assistant Attorney General, Criminal Division):
SENATOR KEFAUVER. I can see that telephones would be used in sporting contests, and it is used quite substantially in the numbers games, too.How about laying off bets by the use of telephones and laying off bets in bigtime gambling? Does that not happen sometimes? MR. MILLER. We can see that this statute will cover it. Oh, you mean gambling on other than a sporting event or contest? SENATOR KEFAUVER. Yes. MR. MILLER. This bill, of course, would not cover that because it is limited to sporting events or contests.
As did Rich.

...
The Keystone State is one of 22 raking in casino gambling tax revenue. Yet its tax rates on the games are as much as seven times higher than Nevada’s. In 2011, Pennsylvania took in almost $1.5 billion from the industry as table games introduced in 2010 added to the cash generated by slots, according to an American Gaming Association survey. Nevada’s $865 million take ranked it second, according to the group, which doesn’t count casinos run by American Indian tribes. Indiana came in third.
...
... New Jersey’s casino tax revenue fell 9.1 percent to $278 million last year, the survey shows ...

Looks like the author thinks there is another boom upcoming through legislation.
IL is already selling lotto tickets online. They started right before the record jackpot.

Gov. Bobby Jindal has vetoed a package of bills that would have tweaked the state's video poker laws, after the conservative Louisiana Family Forum asked him to scrap the changes.
In a letter sent to the governor, Family Forum leader Gene Mills said the bills would deregulate the gambling operations. Jindal agreed, saying they would weaken gambling safeguards.

Groups in 13 states want US to block Internet bets [sfgate.com]
The groups are from Wisconsin, Kentucky, Louisiana, North and South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Hawaii, Georgia and Tennessee.
Typical stuff, internet will be the largest casino, inviting gambling into the home, think of the children, etc., then there's this piece of brilliance:
"... expansion of gambling through casinos or online is targeting one group only: moms and dads," said Kent Ostrander, founder of The Family Foundation of Kentucky. "It's an effort to separate a family from its assets. The family is the building block of any society, and yet it is the most vulnerable institution in that society." (emphasis added)
