Online gambling 101: What the new gambling expansion means for states

Quote:
But state officials are questioning just how much income online gambling will attract. For example, a study in Iowa found that legalizing online poker would net the state only $3 million to $13 million a year.

"Internet gambling is chump change," says John Kindt, a professor of business and legal policy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a senior editor of the US International Gambling Report.

I have not seen one TV ad with anything against him or for the other primary candidates. Just one with him talking about Obamacare being a socialist policy and I think he had one about voting against a pay raise. When I see his ads is while watching local news. The others might have ads on at other times when I'm not watching.

John Kindt is a ****ing moron who for years has been railing about how casinos are bringing about the collapse of the universe. I haven't read his name in anything in awhile...looks like he occasionally crawls out from whatever rock he lives under, spews some sky-is-falling anti-poker nonsense, and then slinks back into obscurity.

And, he adds, it's impossible to electronically regulate online gambling.

Abruzzo said he will not push for online ticket sales for other Florida Lottery games now but will file an amendment to an existing gambling bill that would allow the Florida Lottery to offer online poker. Abruzzo's state-run poker game would protect players from going bust by putting limits on the number of bets and the amount that a player could wager.

"The difference between online lottery and online poker is that poker is taking place anyway," Abruzzo said. "We're harnessing in what's already taking place. With the major offshore operators being shut down, we should be the only legal game in town."

Bodog.com case sends warning to all Canadian websites: Geist [Toronto Star]

Imagine a scenario in which a country enacts a law that bans the sale of asbestos and includes the power to seize the assets of any company selling the product anywhere in the world. ...

Somehow the all-consuming, abject fear of a gambling/fixed game scandal hasn't bothered the professional football folks north of the U.S. border.

... Last November, its free gaming site, Bodog.net, signed a three-year sponsorship deal with the Canadian Football League. ...

Last word is that it won't happen this year. The gambling bill referenced (FL bill to create destination casinos in FL) was tabled this year, so the amendment route isn't available anymore to Abruzzo.

Online Poker State-Federal Debate Continues
Quote:
According to the NCSL letter, the regulation of online poker being operated at the state level is the most logical decision when looking at the track record of individual states in that regard. The NCSL position is also in opposition to Indian tribal gaming interests, who support regulation at the federal level, as a state-by-state format would make offering online poker services a privilege instead of a right for Indian tribes.
