***Official PL article thread***

i figured it would be a good idea to have a thread to post all the articles of interest that seem to pop up every few days, but arent quite deserving of their own thread

partypoker planning for a possible move back to the states

article on the payment processors

calvinayre.com 's idea for lobbying efforts

http://calvinayre.com/2011/03/31/bus...stry-lobbying/

Quote:
In the coming weeks, we’ll be unveiling details of our new “Join The Fight” program, whereby online gaming sites and affiliates can post a link on their sites from which bettors can make their own contributions to our lobbying efforts. After all, it’s their fight, too, so why not engage them in the struggle? The legislative roads must be made clear so that upstanding publicly traded companies can ride to victory.

I'd rather see money go to the PPA PAC (or a similar organization formed for sports bettors) than go to pay Calvin Ayre's personal lobbyists.

Black Friday articles

This is from the NY Times. I think it was re-worked, as the title says "Online Poker Has Big Setback, Despite Lobbying" on top of my browser, but says "Foreign Money Fuels Faltering Bid to Push Online Poker," in the actual story.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/19/us...html?src=twrhp

Anybody seen the print edition to confirm if the story was drastically re-worked?

Also, still haven't seen any indication Holder or Obama see this as worthy of comment.

Re: NY Times story shifted from neutral to anti-PPA angle?

I do not have a hard copy of the NYT. Reading this, though, it seems that the content of the article is relatively favorable to poker players. The headline is probably just to grab people's attention.

Foreign Money Fuels Faltering Bid to Push Online Poker
By ERIC LIPTON
Published: April 18, 2011

WASHINGTON — For the past four years, the foreign companies that control the global Internet poker industry have helped bankroll an elaborate lobbying campaign here, seeking to keep the United States from shutting their American operations down.
This is a common ploy in local, state and federal races, to contend that a particular candidate or lobby is funded by someone foreign to the area, so that lobby's interests are less important because they didn't originate from the electorate.

How do you see this as favorable? The story calls the PPA a stooge organization for Poker Stars and Full Tilt.

Edit/ bottom of story states, "A version of this article appeared in print on April 19, 2011, on page A16 of the New York edition with the headline: Big Setback for Online Poker, Despite Lobbying Campaign."

OP, please change the title of this thread if you can to something like "Time Magazine Opinion Piece: Keeping Us Safe From Poker" to make sure people read this. I think this is something our community can really rally behind.
